I used to play online tethering via my A&TT 3G, 2Mb/s down 400 kb/s Up about 300 ms Ping 200 on a good day and I did decent, I play with about 25 Mb/s Down and 15 Mb/s Up and about 35 Ms ping now and hit detection is just as shitty granted I didn't even bother playing Ghosts

It is so hilarious and shitty that your Taco Bell internet is still .5Mbps faster than mine. smh fml

That and I get free tacos for life  #sweg

I never really had problems in MW2 or MW3 though. This is new. There was lag sometimes, but never outright glitchiness. My closest server is Dallas and that's 3 hours away. You get my crap 100k connection from Verizon or nothing where I live. We're pretty much the definition of nowhere Texas. Ping is usually 514 ms (better than 775 ms in 2011). I'm surprised Xbox Live even works for me to be honest.

Then there's your problem. Can't blame a game for that. Bet you run into the same stuff on BF.

FWIW - My download is ~75mb and upload is ~15mb and CoD runs absolutely flawlessly for me, I've been host in 90% of the matches I've played.

and that's what you call Host Advantage, in gaming DL and UL speeds are pretty much irrelevant it's the ping and packet loss that matter.
Dial-up has better ping than Meta's Crackwhore connection (60 Ms actually) so you could theoretically host matches but at the point you need at LEAST like 256Kb upload.

It just seems odd that I can play the Modern Warfare games fine and Halo, but not Ghosts. FML. Can't wait until I finish college and move to Fort Worth. They have good Internet there and my Xbox can haz host advantagè. (pronounce last 5 words of that sentence in French accent.)

That's why I said my ping was under 10ms in my other post. You show me a speedtest that isn't being intentionally throttled with a download under 5mb and a ping under 10ms. It won't happen. Ping and download/upload are definitely correlated.

If you're paying for slow speeds your ISP isn't going to give you a fast ping.

I speak from personal experience, I used to play on Xbox live with 28.8 kb/s Dial-up about 5 years ago since nothing was available in my area at the time and had no problems playing online the problem was downloading patches or anything for that matter but my ping was ok at 55-60 ms

and no speeds are not related to ping, ping is a measure of the time it takes for a signal to go from your pc to the server.

No, I didn't, you seem to have miss the whole point of what I said, you probably think it'd be better to game online with Satellite Internet than Dial-up because Satellite has better speeds.

I understood your point, and it doesn't change the fact that your dial up speeds are almost 10x under what the suggested minimums for playing xbox live as per the official xbox website.

they suggest a minimum of 3 MPS with a .5 upload, and less than 150 ping.

so yeah you probably were ruining mp matches for a lot of people.

Nope, if I "messed up" anyone's experience I would create a desync and would simply be kicked, besides I would always play with friends never had a problem, if anything my old A&tt 3G had more problems.

If you go by those Suggested ratings Hundreds of Thousands of people are below that threshold with DSL as average DSL Speeds are 1.5 to 2.5 Mb/s Down, 256kb/s Up. I would hope I know I'm talking about as this is what I'm majoring in.

In reality Multi Player is just sending Bits of data to the host saying what your move is and where you are going easily handeled by Dial-up's 28.8 Kilobytes/s and 60 MS Ping

Show me a test to prove me wrong.

If I pay for a 100mb connection, I could be 3 hours from a server or across the street and my ping would be miles better than if I paid for a 1mb connection with the same aforementioned distances.

In no instance would it be the same. Theoretically it should be, but it isn't.

Source - I have Comcast's 100mb connection, but I had their 25mb connection as well. All the same hardware, just a different speed. Pings were drastically different.

Well I can't show you a picture as I don't have another source of internet I am just telling you what I know.

Bandwidth has nothing to do with Ping, It's like saying My Car will go faster on this 3 Lane Highway than the 2 Lane one. Now if there's traffic it's going to slow down.

It is very possible ISPs give higher priority to more expensive lines but that's a perk of the host not the actual download/upload speed.

If they give more priority, that just furthers my point which is exactly what I'm saying I've personally experienced. I upgraded my plan because the lag in mp games was too much for me.

I've never seen a ping anywhere near 10ms with a download near 5-10mb.

That is a perk of the ISP not the actual Speeds, which is what I was trying to point out, not every ISP does this and Comcast sure as hell didn't do it for my brother with his 50 down 25 up, 450 MS ping. Satellite the most obvious example can't do this, you can have the fastest residential satellite Internet, which is like 12Mb/s for $130 a month, and the highest priority and would still get a ping of 700 MS,

Fiber Optics is a great example, you can have the cheapest Fios plan available and still get a ping of 5-10 MS, increasing the speed will not change that.
