Whoa, you're jumping to a lot of conclusions here. I'm not talking about giving my kid "sexually explicit" material, I'm saying that if I was going to let him play Gears of War, I'd also let him play God of War which has some nudity/sexuality.
Sex is natural. Violence is also natural, but not in the same way, and not what I want permeating my child's thoughts (hypothetically of course since I don't have any). He is going to think about sex no matter what, and before he gets to giggling with his buddies or experimenting with the ladies, he and I would have had The Talk many times over.
Your mentioning Jurassic Park is funny, I once wrote a way-too-long diatribe about how Jurassic Park was rated PG-13 and showed violent dismemberment and death, and American Pie was rated R.
I don't know why you are so quick to make all these assumptions about my "logic" which I didn't even begin to state, or fling crazy accusations, but it's probably that "gender gap" you mentioned. You keep that nice bubble around your kiddos while they play violent games, I'll keep not having kids, and not attempt ever having a rational conversation with you again.

You know what? The kid is going to learn it from somewhere, might as well be from video games.
And before I get a wrath of shit, I'm joking.

Hell, it's glamorized with this new generation. Maybe it's the gender gap that has you unable to see a connection, maybe it's the age difference, or maybe it's simply that you don't have children... but I will protect my son from making mistakes that will affect him permanently in any way I can.
I'm... appalled. And speechless. And done with this thread.

I was having this discussion with a few friends a few days ago after watching a trailer for MTV's SKINS.
I'm a guy that's been watching stuff like Cannibal Holocaust since I was like 10, and this trailer got me nauseous.
Really? Is this the kind of shit they call entertainment these days?
Obviously, the people responsible for producing this kind of crap are the sons and daughters of the Jerry Springer generation.
Even porn nowadays has gotten more violent. I did learn a lot of stuff from watching porn, like anyone else, but what if it was now? Would I be expecting a girl to... (over 18, please)

Because that's pretty much the average porn movie these days.let me stick my foot in her mouth when I screw her in the ass with a 20 inch dildo while aggressively slapping her breasts?
This world is pretty screw as it is right now, and the people responsible for preventing misinformation that can screw a kid is his/her own parents/guardians.
Yes, eventually they WILL find all this, but we cannot make them go unprepared, education starts at home, not school or friends.
Man, I'm getting old.

Melissa, I'm on your side 100%. Sex has no place in the video game industry. I have tons of M rated games, but I don't think any have sexual themes in it. I would never endorse or buy a game like this. Remember the game on PS2 ( i think ) called the guy game that was basically answer a question right see a naked woman. Remember how many people came out against that kind of thing? Now some of y'all are okay with screwing virtual women with a motion capture device? Where has this society gone in 5 years?

I still am not sure how I specifically feel about the idea of sex-specific "games" on the Kinect, but really I don't care about the Kinect anyway.
My bigger issue here is this backwards-ass, hypocritical attitude so many "gamers" are taking about sex in games.
Game Informer recently had an article about Move that had a large image of Leonardo's Vitruvian Man but with the penis completely removed. In this same magazine were huge images and ads for games like God of War, Mortal Kombat, etc.
Seriously guys, why do you take such an issue with people wanting to simulate a basic and natural human process on their gaming platforms yet you have no problem with almost photo-realistic, graphic, simulated violence, dismemberment, disembowelment, and decapitation?
Or are you going to draw another imaginary line of dissent when a Kinect game comes out that lets you do the motions to perform a fatality on a character?

The simple answer is....sex and violence sells.
There will always be a huge group of people who will eagerly hand over there money to fondle some boobs and to rip out a spine with a sick fatality move.
