People will cheat no matter what is done. I am glad Microsoft is doing something about it. However in the end does it really mean anything?

Seriously does game score really mean anything? Is it for anything other than bragging rights?

Just wondering.

Achievements need to be fair and obtainable. Microsoft needs to stick to its guns and continue to punish cheaters.

OK, hold on a second. I have all kinds of problems with this kind of thinking. You say we don't need ANY easy achievements. Who gets to decide whats easy and whats hard. Something that is very easy for you might have me pulling my hair out. Also why should someone not as skilled as you not get to enjoy the achievement system. It needs to have something for everyone no matter what there skill level is. Oh here is the best part. You think that achievements should only be for HARDCORE players ONLY as they should be the ONLY people to finish a game. Well just what is hardcore. I here it all the time but does anyone really know what it is. There are some people who play alot, does that make them hardcore. There are some who have every system and every game ever made, does that make them hardcore. And don't forget about the people that play all day, are they hardcore. The people that know me (friends, family, and co-workers) they think I'm hardcore, but I don't think so. I play games when I'm home, but I wouldn't stand a chance in a Halo 3 or CoD 4 tourney. (I'll kick your ass in ace combat 6 though) NO, I think that if XBL was run your way there wouldn't be a community at all. And the last I heard their's like 10 million of us on xbox live. So the community is going strong, but I can see why no one wants to play with you!!!

i know what hardcore is this is a hardcore gamer

I'm all for less online achievements. I doubt I will ever be alle to complete Halo 3 for those ranked multiplayer achievements like the achievement for killing two people at the same time with the spartan laser seems utterly impossible to me. Same with the Full Auto achievement of getting to the top rank of the leaderboards, it seems utterly impossible to me.

But I gotta say my favorite achievements are for going out of your way and doing something you would never do. Like the "In the Dark" Achievement from TMNT Arcade, that achievement was fun to stumble upon. I hope they make more like that and start moving away from multiplayer based achievements.

At the very least, I think they should do away with any Achievements for Ranked online matches seeing as how the whole idea of Ranked versus Player Matches is that in Ranked, you're in there to play well and win, not to just pal around with friends, boost for Achievements, or whatever.
Having online Achievements is good for increasing the odds overall you can find someone to play a game with, especially if it's an older or less popular title, but make them Player that way you can invite friends and/or other people you know have the game.

I mean maybe if it's just "Complete 10 Ranked online games" since that would have the positive effect of increasing the playing population on Live without contributing anything negative like boosting, or "hey guys let me get the torquebow ok??" or "i am trying to get the multi kills with the sword if you don't go stand over there you get kicked," or "rev meta please put your pants back on" er wait not that last one.

I agree with this line of thinking regarding achievements. Case and point would be my experience with Halo3 last Saturday night. Me and 2 friends of mine completed the game on the Legendary difficulty setting together! It was awesome to say the least. Halo3 is one of the most challening games out there so completing it on legendary was one of the most satisfying gaming experiences I've had to date. I have to admit though that I think some online multiplayer achievments can be very good and rewarding. I really enjoyed getting the grenade stick achievement in Halo3. There was absolutely no boosting involved. The same goes for the the achievements you can get in Halo3 for killing x-number of players in a row in 4 seconds or less (the overkill achievement for instance). As far as I can tell 99% of the people who play Halo3 online don't boost. I've never been involved with a multiplayer match where it occurred anyway. I also agree with ReverendMeta's assessment of online achievements as well. I think they have their place and can be very challenging and rewarding, without boosting or cheating, if they are set up properly. I am against 0 point achievements and secret achievements (the ones that you don't know what they are until you unlock them in the game). I like knowing I'm shooting for. I also don't like the achievements some games offer for a person dying a certain number of times, etc. Those all seem pointless to me. Last but not least, I am definitely against the types of achievements that are so difficult to attain that they make me frustrated and want to not play that particular game anymore. Anyway, that is my 2 cents worth. :p
