He didn't get into Yale sheerly because of brains. His dad was a Yale graduate, and the admit rate for legacy applications is about four times the admit rate for regular applications. Plus his dad was already beginning to gain political power; sons and daughters of celebrities are always more likely to be admitted than regular applicants. On the SAT he got a 566 verbal score and a 640 math score. Those are respectable scores but nothing astounding. I believe his composite was around 70th percentile, but I have no way to check for sure.
