Fair prices and a wider selection on used/new accessories. I was recently trying to find a blue wireless controller with a rechargeable battery for my girlfriend, the limited edition powder blue, and i could not find it at any gamestop or chain store. I ended up having to get it off Ebay, but I got a great deal so I couldnt complain, but it was a hassle tryin to find a single controller. I also can't find a used wireless guitar controller anywhere, any I find are plastered with the previous owners retarded stickers.

Ah yes, the classic problem of any store that deals in used merchandise, there is no way to control when product will be traded in or what product will be brought in. Since my store is the only one to deal in retro and items prior to the PS2 we get quite a lot of that in, but obtaining newer merchandise used can sometimes be very hard. After all, no one wants to trade in a controller the bought three months ago, only to find that they're getting half of what they paid for it. The prominence of Amazon and Ebay has a lot more people going online to sell their products, obtaining a larger worth with a bit more patience.

To summarize all that nonsense, it's all in the luck of the draw. We may not see a used PS3 controller for two months, then one week we'll get seven. That's just the way used works though, at least with new we keep in constant stock, until it comes to Wii merchandise, then they just lounge around and send out a couple systems every other week while laughing at all the parents frothing at the mouth trying to get one for their kids.

I love that we keep up on older gen titles, I actually just bought Breath of Fire 3, Wild Arms and Tales of Destiny that we had traded in not too long ago. I checked Play-N-Trade, they sound exactly like us, which is nice to know that other companies are competing with the big ones.

yeah, Play-N-Trades are probably the best stores to go to around here that i know of for older gen games. half the stores in the area have closed down however for who knows why. they have a neat "try before you buy" option where you can try a game out before you buy it (used games only for obvious reasons), although i never use that option since i usually know what i'm buying xD

Actually we have that too, and it's not limited to used. We have seven tv's set up with two Wii's, two PS3's, two 360's, one PS2, one XBOX and a RetroDuo for people to test NES and SNES games on, a GBA SP and a DS system. Obviously there are a couple systems that are doubled for tv's. We even have birthday parties here sometimes. Gotta admit though, it is a bit distracting to see a game that I really want to play while I'm trying to get work done.

lol the workers here have a 42" tv on the wall behind the counter and when there's no customers, they just put a game in and play. usually not online since you can't pause it when someone walks in :p

but yeah, i've chilled at my local Play-N-Trade a few times and we just put in random games to play

Another thing is, make sure employees know about video games. Some gamestop employees dont know shit about what they sell.

Ah yes, one of my employees has a great story to that. She bought a 360 from a friend who didn't have the power cable. We didn't have one at the time so she went to Gamestop to buy one. Once there she asked the employee for a 360 brick. As any of us with a 360 know, the power block looks like a brick. The employee just gave her a blank stare for a couple seconds, followed by "...What?" It apparently took her almost a minute to explain to the fool what she wanted. As for the employees we hire, we make sure to ask what they know and question them before they get the job.

I know this is not something in your control, but I was thinking about something the other day.

I remember back in the day when I walked into a record store and first saw one of those scanners that you slide the CD under and it allows you to listen to a few tracks off of an album before you buy it. How awesome would that be if they made those scanners to affix to the consoles so people could demo a game that they are not sure about.

I can dream, right? :p

Well we can't exactly do that, but like I mentioned before, people can test any game we have at the time. The only problem with that is the people that treat us like a free arcade and stay for like, 5 hours without buying anything.

Usually I go into gamestop and I try to look for rare or medium rare games just to see if people actually sell them. Like not to long ago finding /.hack part 3 in perfect condition for like 10 dollars or something.

Good luck with the store, and i suppose ill have to put in my 2 cents

Like most people said, fair pricing on used games and trade in values, enough to satisfy use and enough so you still make a profit

Being able to trade in old Players Guides would be nice, some people finish with theres and dont know what to do with it and someone out there is probably looking for that same guide

ex: me want Tales of Vesperia guide T_T

We certainly have fairer prices than usual; we usually trade items in at a third to half of what we sell it for, unlike Gamestop's 1/8 to 1/6.

We get tons of players guides in, we've had everything from the original Lunar hardbook guide, to the Xenogears guide, to new Pokemon guides.

Quote by Four Channel:

Good fair sales on trade in titles, cheap used games. Older games for other systems I have. stuff like that, posters, wall scrolls etc. I love filling my room with junk. lol

Name a system and we have it and games for it. Posters and such we get in once in a while, although we aren't big enough for large companies to give us free stuff to hand out yet.

All the girls that work for our company are very aware of gaming, I was having a discussion with one of them about the new Borderlands DLC earlier. The point of a company isn't to hire models, it's to provide excellent and knowledgeable service.
