I followed Dan's advice and went all the way offline before starting the install, and it took less than 30 minutes so now I know to do that with every xb1 retail game.

Servers have been solid so far--my internet, however, decides to be a dick every now and then and time out. I know my dsl line is very lossy so it's not MS' fault, but their shiny new XBL servers have really fucking fast timeout kills.
You can choose which "data center" to connect to at the main menu which is a nice option, and it shows your latency. They have 4 in the US. I'm getting 65ms latency for the South Central US one, not bad at all.
