If you guys are still looking to get level 100 in Gears 2 to get the unlock in Gears 3, there will be an xp week during GDC. Which means 02/28 - 3/4.
The cool thing though is that it is all tied to Rod Fergusson's weight loss. The ammount of weight he is losing translates to how big the multiplier will be.
Here are some updates from his Twitter account:
Jan. 12th
Hey maybe I could tie this to an event somehow like every pound I lose will be a multiplier...
We'll do an event during GDC (Feb 28) where the multiplier is the amount of weight I lose between now and then.
Jan. 17th
Ok, Monday morning weigh in - down 3 pounds (thx water weight)! So we're up to 5x XP if I can keep it off till GDC.
Jan. 24th
Monday morning weigh in - down 7 pounds. So far GDC is a 9x XP if I can keep it off till end of Feb.
Jan. 31st
Monday XP weigh in - I'm down 12 pounds! That's 14x XP if I can keep it off till the 28th event.
Feb. 7th
Monday XP weigh in - down 14 lbs. So 16x XP for you during GDC week.
Feb. 14th
Monday morning weigh in: down 18 lbs! So far, that means 20x XP during GDC week.

So we will know the release date for Gears of War 3 within the next 7 days!

Now we wait for the Special Edition to be announced. I would expect a GoW3 360 Bundle too.

man, I'm not close to 100, but I wonder if I can work some magic and get it done. What is the best match to get into that offers the most reward for XP?

Annex. Set up a boosting event during the EXP week coming up. I'll join you. I'm at 71 myself and I need to hit 100 also so, that seems to be the best way to do it is by boosting Annex. Beware though as it will get very boring fast.

why couldnt they spark some controversy and release it on September 11th? i can see it now: GoW3 banned in the US for being connected to Al Qaeda. fail.

Given how Microsoft is, If they DON'T release a red 360 slim with a 320 GB HD that makes a chainsaw noise when you start it up, I'll be suprised.

UPDATE - Added official release date to OP.
