taking suggestions... (connection problem?)

Has this happened to anyone else? Here lately, more often then not when I turn on my Xbox its shows that I am connected to Live. However, 20 seconds after I put a game in it disconnects from Live. It doesn't matter what game I use. It also tells me something new is wrong every time I test the connection. First it was a problem between my Xbox and the router. Then it was between the internet and Live and after that it was between my router and the internet. Anyone have any ideas?

I've had a similar problem for a little more than two weeks now. When I turn the Xbox on, everything looks fine and appears to work. I play a game and when I return to the dashboard, it claims not all features are available, etc. Then I'll attempt to reconnect and I'll get a various error code. It seems like its something different each time. Or if I am actually able to connect again, Netflix won't work and I can't stay in a party.
I don't have any problems streaming or connecting on the ps3, wii, or wifi on my iPhone.
It's very weird. I thought it was an Internet problem, but everything else is fast (can stream in hd). And nothing else has connection problems.
I haven't tested it enough, but I'm leaning towards thinking that the problem is in the wireless adapter (I'm hooked up with an old school wireless adapter).
Are you connecting directly with a cord or via wireless?

Perhaps opening a port might help you out. I had to do that with my router and since then it has worked perfectly.

Usually this means setting in your router changed, like Shadow suggested. On mine personally, it means my router changed from the fully open settings I put in to limited or closed.
Also it can just mean the throughput of your internet was bogged right when you tried to connect. This happens more frequently to my roommates than me (I may or may not have set up the router to give my xbox and pc IPs priority bwahaha)

Thanks folks... I do have a wireless connection. I was thinking of hard wiring it into the modem. Would this fix the problem?

If its not too much of a hassle, I'd try running the wire. My Xbox that is running on an old school adapter is always giving me a headache, but I have a newer style one running on a wired connection, and it seems to do fine.

That's what I was thinking but it would be a bit of a hassle as I would need an extra Kong cable to stretch from the living room to the computer room

I would say absolutely yes do this. Grab a cheap 50 foot cat6 cable off newegg.com and do it to it!

Yup, that's what I'd do. Ok, I'm lying. I have terrible wireless issues with my slim, but I still haven't run a cable. It would literally only have to be a 6 inch cable, but I'm stubbornly resetting my router every time (kicks off people mooching my wifi).

I had the same problems you were describing several months ago, so I bought a 100 foot cable and ran in through my house and hard wired the whole system and now it runs like it was new.

Why isn't your wifi protected?
I have 4 acres and wifi doesn't even reach the garage. It's phones and every person in the houses damn laptops that mooch it. To be honest, I think my router is broken... Or maybe there's supposed to be a limit on how many wireless devices can connect. But even with a wired connection, Utorrent shuts down all connections. Unfortunately, I really don't know much about the hows of the Internet, lol.

1 - yeah there is a limit on how many wireless connections you can have going at once.
2 - stop torrenting gay porn and downlead it legally. you're putting hard-working actors and their huge floppy schlongs out of work!!
3 - it's a series of tubes.
