I only buy guides for my JRPG's, if theirs an achievement for things such as weapons, quests, other forms of collectibles then id think the $20 is worth it opposed to the chance of wasting 20 hours cause you missed one little thing

I have found an online walkthrough, but in the comment section a lot of users had problems with one or two things and people had even posted to not waste your time with it. But there seems to be a lack of walkthroughs for this achievement, plus the hardback copy is only 23 bucks on Amazon.

I buy some guides, but mostly use the net. They are handy when the wife or kids are on the computer and it isnt available though.

I love my guides!! I have one for every rpg i have. You need to be careful on which guides you get though because they are getting cheap on info. What i mean by that is some guides will give you a vague reference as how to do something, and then go on to say to check out their web page for the full strategy. That pisses me off to no end. If you pay for the guide you should get what you paid for. They are invaluable but just make sure you get a good one!!

I bought a guide for GTA IV and it helped big time with finding all the pigeons, stunt jumps and what not. I doubt I would've been able to get the 100% "Key to the City" cheevo without it.
I also loved the guide for Oblivion. It was huge help.

I used to buy strategy guides but like Papoose said, the internet is a wonderful thing and once I started using the internet for gaming, I gave up on the strategy guides, except for Lost Odyssey and Final Fantasy XIII

The quality and usefulness of strategy guides varies a lot depending on what the game is and who made the guide.
They are great for epic RPG's, and fighting games if they have lots of relavent data (for instance, the recent one for MvC3). For action games they are usually less useful because there is only so much to be found in the game as they are linear and just have a few collectibles. There are definite exceptions though, like for sandbox games such as GTA 4 or Saints Row 2.
Achievements are usually only mentioned briefly towards the end since the games with guides are often multi-platform; most of the time you are better off using the internet for Achievement walkthroughs.
Dragon Age 2 seems like it would have a good, useful strategy guide.

Yeah I just used a guide online for those and pretty much anything else I've ever needed to find since the Nintendo 64. So no, I do not spend money on guides that I can find for free online.

I am the same way. Haven't bought one since those days. The last one I bought was for Final Fantasy 7. Now I just use my Droid X or Laptop.

I saw the strategy guide for Hellgate: London at hastings tonight. It made me laugh.
