Static-X(most well known for Wayne Static and his crazy, spikey hair) is an Industrial metal band. although from what i hear, they like to refe to themselves as "evil disco". my reaction? "WTF wayne." keep industrial metal under your belt and you'll go far. evil disco? just GTFO. anyway, Machine alongside Wisconsin Death Trip seems to be Static's most well know known album. why? i dont know. honestly this album sucks except for about 3 songs- Get to the Gone, Cold, and This is Not. now i have every Static album to date, including their rare tracks and demos album, "Beneath... Between... Beyond", and compared to "Start a War" and "Wisconsin Death Trip" this is pure trash. i spent $5.00 and F.Y.E on it used, and i wish i had my $5.00 back. going back to why this album is their 2nd most known album, i think it has to do with the fact that the song "Cold" was featured on the hit movie Queen of the Damned(the entire album was composed by John Davis of korn and Dave Dryman of Disturbed) but its an okay song. and like "Push It" on Wisconsin Death Trip, people say, "i know that song, i think i'll buy this". bad idea with Machine. this album gets a 1/5.

Cult of Static sucks too except for a track or 2.

It's a shame, because I really like Wisconsin Death Trip, I still listen to it frequently to this day. Definitely some talented guys in the band, and it's awesome they got the Japanese guitarist back, but for some reason they have trouble writing interesting songs...

again......... like SoaD, i loved their first two or so albums, lol.

you know what it is? drugs. the lack of, specifically.
all these doped up, kick-ass musicians come together and create art.
a year later they're sober, focusing on late night interviews, stocks and changing diapers.

yeah.... that's gotta' be it.

Honestly, I really think this is true. I feel like other things are factors, I mean you can only have that crazy enthusiasm for a project for so long, plus outside of the music you can get sick of the people, plus age.

But ultimately, I have seen so many musical groups and artists go through this. They clean up their act, stop the intoxicants and start becoming very successful, but their music also becomes much more sterile and repetitive, choruses are over-used, filler material starts creeping onto albums, and the price of tickets to their show goes up because they play in huge venues but the actual show itself is a tame, tepid concert.

I saw Static-X live a long time ago. Death Trip had just been released, and they were actually the opening band for Powerman 5000 who was headlining the tour.

Static really threw down, the music was great and the show was terrific with a lot of energy and stuff flying everywhere. Now I watch videos of them playing huge outdoor festivals and they kind of look like they are just going through the motions...

amen, brother. i completely agree.
i could list tons of bands/musicians suffering from sobriety!

i can't say i approve of drug use in any entirety, but the best musicians of all time are now old, recovering burn outs. i haven't heard a SINGLE song i truly love in the 2000's. this may reflect on other things as well, as i'm sure some main-steam bands still get high, but it's all about just that now. main-stream. it hasn't been "all about the music, man" for far too long.

its like Devin Townsend, he dropped pot, and then Strapping Young Lad's "The New Black" came out. people didnt like it, and said the reason it sucked is because he had no weed. lol
