Spider-Man Reboot.

The Sam Raimi era of Spider-Man is over.....

The director of the Spider-Man Trilogy and the Evil Dead Trilogy has been dismissed by Sony. The director and the studio could not agree to terms on a new movie. Spiderman 4 had been delayed 6 times since the end of the third film. Sam Raimi had hoped to make up for the bad screenplay in Spider-Man 3 with a "Epic and profound" fourth film a la' The Dark Knight minus the grit and darkness.

some of the notable differences between Raimi and Sony included...

+Who should be the villain and how many should there be? Raimi wanted one, and it be a strong character that could bring out the best in Parker (The Hobgoblin or The Lizard were rumored). Sony wanted numerous villains ( at least 3) with no one villain being the center of attention.

+ The Release date: Sony wanted a summer 2011 release date, and Raimi could not meet that with the epic Spider-Man that he envisioned. He might have been able to do Christmas 2011 or Summer 2012

+Budget: Raimi asked for a $300M and Sony only offered $200M.

So citing irreconcilable differences Sony has dismissed Sam Raimi from the director's chair. Sony plans to reboot the franchise....

REBOOT!?!?!? WTF?

That's right boy's and girls Sony does not intend to find a new director but instead scrap the current series and start from scratch! Sony plans to reboot the franchise starting with yet another orgins film of how Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider. With a new cast and a new director, they hope to have the first film in the "NEW" Spider-Man series currently dubbed "The Amazing Spider-Man" out by summer 2011. No actors have been confirmed as this is breaking news, but it is expected that a teenager will play the title role.

IMO: I think sony should have either
A: given Raimi the time and money for his "EPIC" Spider-Man film to see if he can make up for the 3rd one.
or
B: gone the route of the original Batman series and just replace the directors and or cast. no need to start a whole new series 9 years after the first movie! i mean the new hulk only had a new actor... it didn't completely write off the last film. lolz Sony fails

You forgot to mention that they booted Toby MacGuire too.

I will forgive that because you did mention that they are going back to his high school days.

And another reason Raimi wanted a later date is because Thor was announced for the exact same release date as Spider-Man 4.

i said that they wanted a whole new cast.... isnt toby macguire part of the cast. lol

I also heard on local news that the Vulture was going to be in 4 but either the studio wanted it and Raimi didn't or vice-versa.

Either way I don't care about Spider-Man movies anymore, because:
A) they already did the part I care about, the symbiote/Venom, poorly
2) there is going to be a separate Venom movie anyway
iii) sweet! a Thor movie! it shall kicketh ass verily

Agreed. I was highly disappointed in Venom. They really screwed that one up.

Not only Thor. There are also plans in the works for a Captain America, obviously many people know about the Iron Man sequel, rumored possible movies of Hawkeye, and Black Widow, and another Hulk movie with Edward Norton as Bruce Banner, and an Avengers movie (this being released after each member of the team has had their own film released).

no... as far as i know there is NOT a separate venom movie in the works. im a huge marvel and marvel movie fan, so i wouldnt mind, but i dont see this happening, or recall hearing confirmations of it.

and probably a few others

Now "confirmed: simply means that Marvel has bought the title for a movie, and they have screenplay and maybe a few other people working on it. it DOES NOT mean the movie will be definite or even any time soon. i am pretty sure that Ant Man and Avengers are coming in the near future. and Captain America and Thor are due next year. iron man is coming out near this summer

like AJ said, Ant Man hasnt had a movie, so his movie would have to come before the Avengers Movie

EDIT: im aware that Thor was an avenger, but so were half the marvel heros at one point lol Ant Man, Iron Man, Hulk, and Captain America were the original 4 :cool:

don't think they should start the whole series over, just move on with a new cast and let the previous stories of the series continue.

EDIT: @boxin, i agree. what they should do is just continue with the current story, let it take as long as it needs, but do a multi-villain thing again. it worked for batman didnt it? Joker, and Two face.

they should do a whole animal thing with Rhino, Vulture, Scorpion, and Lizard as their ringleader (since he was introduced already in all three of the other films! only as Dr. Connors, not the lizard)

i dont really mind having toby come back. im pretty sure Sony was also pushing for a Carnage related film for SM4... silly Sony Carnage is JUST LIKE venom and wouldnt really have worked too well being the next movie right after SM3. maybe for SM5 or 6. preferably 6. give it some time. i can really see the Spidey series going on for many years to come, they just have to let the man do his work

I still think Venom should have gotten his own film with Spidey. They just didn't have enough time in 3 to really sell the character, especially with Sandman as another big villain in it.

this is why Venom "might" have his own movie. because they failed him in SM3. again, its not really confirmed at all

yeah toby was alright in my book. in the comics everyone knows peter parker becomes spidey as a teenager. but as tghe series goes on he gets older. most spider man comics take place in his 30's

SONY thinks every spiderman should be an equivalent to harry potter. over budgeted and starring teens, and made for teens.

adult comic book movies might do even BETTER than ones for teens! they're the ones who actually read the comics!
