In lieu of further bloating the already tl;dr Ultra Waffle list, I've decided to just start a thread for potential wafflers that don't already have one.
So here we have another movie tie-in game. It's a 1-4 player platformer in the vein of New Super Mario Bros or Rayman Legends, albeit far easier.
+ 4-6 hours estimated completion time
+ the Smurfs' special abilities genuinely change game flow
+ it's not eye-gougingly hideous
+ you can ignore the in-game objectives!
+ there's only 1 multiplayer Achievement and it only requires 1 extra controller
- you will have to replay every level once
- Achievements require you to beat each boss without getting hit so marginal skill is required
- the Achievement pop-up blocks on-screen action, ytf don't more devs utilize the features to move it up and to the side
The reason you have to replay levels is because a specific Smurf's skill is required for most coins. When you beat the game the first time, it unlocks Smurfette as well as the ability to use RT to swap out your character.
As you first play the game, you can just speed run through each level and ignore the Smurf coins, just making sure you "go blue" at least once per level (not including boss fights).
If you use Clumsy a lot, the game feels like an easier Donkey Kong Country.
If you use Jokey a lot, the game feels like Mario with a fireflower.
If you use Grouchy, it feels more like Rayman.
If you use Brainy, it really starts to feel like a generic platformer because his double-jump is unnecessarily huge.
Not the worst way to grab up 1000G, and if you have someone playing coop with you then it'd probably be even better. Who cares if the movie's shitty? Score is score and this game is not terrible. I have yet to encounter any bugs/glitches, replaying levels is quick & easy, and there's not 9000 collectibles to track down.
Now, someone explain to me why the bad guy's cat is named after the Judeo-Christian angel of death, 'Azra-El'???
