Rocksmith

Just when you thought the music gaming genre was dead, Ubisoft is creating a new guitar game that uses an actual electric guitar. The game titled "Rocksmith" is due out some time this September and will be shipping with around 45+ songs.

The game is aimed at audiences who want to learn how to play guitar or play guitar even better. The game features actual notes and chords to strum along to while teaching and guiding you on your quest to be the ultimate guitar player.

Rocksmith will ship for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. The game will sell seperately (for those who already have an electric guitar) or with a bundled electric guitar. Pricing for the bundle of the game and electric guitar is going to be around the $200 price range.

hmmm rise of the six string was the first game to try an actual guitar it tanked, activision cancelled the guitar hero franchise because of a shrinking market, what makes ubisoft think they stand a chance in the rhythm game market when its their first game and yet one of the leaders in the genre quit making one of the biggest selling games of the genre....ubisoft needs to stick to making assassin's creed and tom clancy games something they know a little bit about

Hopefully they'll release some sort of adapter so I can use my real electric guitar, I'm not paying 200$ to do something in a game that I can do in real life. That't the main reason I didn't get into pro mode for guitar on Rock Band, I just don't see myself paying that kind of money.

basically it'll be like having a tutor at home and learning 45 new songs on the guitar for $60, unless of course you don't already have a guitar, and yes any real guitar will work, they already said that in the trailer, they all have the same size jack/input.

That's the entire point behind the game: Use your own guitar.

That being said, I love arguing about this game. I've already pissed off one user over at x360a, but I think he's just slow. To save myself some time, here's my exact post:

It can not detect strings, nor frets nor tuning nor finger placement, because it doesn't have the sensors Rock Band 3's Squier required to make it compatible with the game in the first place.

If that wasn't enough, you still need to supply your own guitar on top of a copy of the game. So whether you already own a $400 Ibanez and want to pick this game up, or own Rock Band 3 and want to learn with the $280 Squier, you're going to spend a fortune either way.

In the end, this game sounds like it'll provide the same experience you'd expect from a $30 instructional video for double the price. My opinion stands until I see gameplay footage.

Personally, I'll just stick to browsing tabs on Ultimate-Guitar.

I'm definitely excited for this. I have an electric guitar that has sat in the same spot in my closet for over a year now, and I think this concept might really be nifty!

I agree 100% mikachu. It's nice that they let you use any guitar, but that also renders the game physically impossible to tell what you're doing. You could be playing everything wrong and the game will keep trucking on, since it lacks the ability to register what you're actually playing on your guitar.

This makes the game probably a pass for me, I can learn my songs via ultimateguitar and youtube.

omfg. what if they released a Meshuggah licensed version? Rocksmith: Meshuggah Edition. comes with a badass 8 string guitar. or, OR! Rocksmith: M.A.N Edition. comes with an f'n 11 string guitar! i think i just shit myself....... either way, im not buying it. unless Fredrik Thordendal signs it....or Rob Guz signs it.
