If you're referring to your reputation percentage, that's linked to your gamertag profile rep %. If you're referring to your Carebear status, that's directly linked to how many posts you've made in the forums.

How is the reputation percentage computed? I still disagree with the way MS manages their reputation percentage, when you can get bad rep. by someone to block you from entering games (when they are playing with friends, etc.). Never was fair!

If you post something someone or a lot of people don't like, they have the option to give you a negative one (-1) on that post. The same thing is true for opposite - if someone really likes what you posted, they can give you a plus one (+1).
So, with that in mind, if you post good, everyone leaves you alone. If you post greatly (appreciate, complimentary) your rep goes up. But, if you are a jerk or you post badly (attacking, copy-cat threads, creating redundant threads) your rep will go down.
