I also have no doorbell. This is a positive thing.
During this time, I've learned the art of the knock. I know mail knock, salesman knock, kid knock, Jehovah witness knock (slightly different than young missionary knock), and the worst knock of all- Cop Knock. That one makes me cringe the most.
Our mail carrier got a trainee once and he knocked like a cop. Freaked me out.

I have a sticker on my door that says "Thank God I'm an atheist" it works like a charm. I haven't had any of those people ring my doorbell since I put it up.
