It was dark, but my street is lit from all the porch lamps/street lights.
It sounded worse than a warzone. It was nuts, I bet Iraq doesn't even sound that bad sometimes.
As far as almost being shot, I was standing at the front of my house (middle of the drive way between houses) recording the sounds. Someone fired off a shot on the block behind me, and you could hear a bullet hit my garage (about 20 yards behind me) and then you can hear the bullet wiz past me in the air.
