Also, I have a giant 4K tv and a sunroom you could use as a bedroom. Wink wink wink.
Project Scorpio - 4K, HDR gameplay footage
Claiming to be the most powerful console ever, the Scorpio will play games and movies at 4K with High Dynamic Range lighting, provided they are supported. Microsoft has already confirmed that all first-party Scorpio titles will run natively in 4K resolution, as opposed to being upscaled like on the Xbox One S and PS4 Pro.
Microsoft has an official promo page at www.xbox.com/en-US/project-scorpio, and there is a great informative article at Tech Radar that describes all confirmed features so far and features amazing 4K gameplay footage of Gears of War 4 and an as-yet-untitled futuristic shooter: http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/project-scorpio-release-date-news-and-features-everything-we-know-about-microsoft-s-4k-ready-xbox-1323455
The Scorpio's other big feature is VR support. Yes, it will already have HoloLens, but according to the MS head of Xbox division Phil Spencer, Scorpio is also made to work with "existing VR headsets." No specific models were mentioned, but will likely include Oculus Rift and possibly HTC Vive, as these are currently the leading consumer third-party VR headsets. If a partner company is chosen, it may lead to a Scorpio "VR Bundle" that includes a headset and software.
Personally, it feels a little soon to already be introducing a whole new generation of consoles, but on the other hand I have no interest in the stop-gap Xbox One S or PS4 Pro. I also didn't expect the XB1/PS4 to have the huge lifespan that the 360/PS3 had, so perhaps it is better to get the new tech out sooner rather than later, especially with Nintendo's NX looming.
Still, I don't have a 4K-capable display and don't plan to get one any time soon, and I haven't seen any VR games that make me want to shell out the money for the gear to play them. Right now the main benefit to me is that when the Scorpio lands, it will make it easier to get more XB1 games on the cheap. I'll let eager early adopters "test" the console & launch software for me, and if it sounds good and they come out with some great games, maybe I'll grab one mid-2018.
What do you think? Are you ready for a new console gen already? What games would you like to see on the Scorpio?
