One hour before my shift ended, UPS dropped off 39 packages, I scrambled to complete as many as possible. About 30 minutes before my shift ended, the mail man maniacally laughed at the number of packages that he delivered, about 100. I logged about 15 packages before the end of my shift, but my post office relief was 15 minutes late!
After clocking out, I asked the supervisor if I should work some more after a lunch break to help get it done. I was told that the residents need their textbooks, so get it done. I felt like I was on a mission to get the books to the students, so I began processing the rest of the 150 or so packages f mostly textbooks. I got help from my Resident Assistant and his roommate for some time and had almost completed ALL of them when my supervisor told me to clock out.
Later in the night, she wanted to speak to me. I was basically chewed out for various things and asked not to work for the post office any more. Not only did I have 20 hour work limit each week, because I am a full time student, but I apparently cannot work more than 8 hours a day as a part time worker because it will take too many hours from the post office allotment. She also said I should not have received help from others, especially untrained workers, even though they were only organizing packages and writing room numbers on them in big marker. She also wanted me to send her an email with every minute I wasn't working for the post office, including phone calls and the time I covered the front desk so a Resident Assistant could eat supper. She wants to get my 11 hour day down to 8 hours! I never got a thank you for logging a package every 2 minutes, 3 times faster than any other post office worker, or for spending 6 hours logging them so she didn't have to. All I got was "find someone else to cover your shift Thursday," even though I would be under the 20 hour weekly max if my relief hadn't been late.
So I sent the email with my times actually working and a message saying that I quit and I hope she has fun the next time over 100 packages arrive on a Tuesday or Thursday because she is the only one that can work during that time.
So thats my rant about basically being fired for working too hard.
Any comments?
