Stop watching the news (being informed isn't worth the guilt and depression).
Cook at home more, eat out less. Give up fast food.
I've got a few more, but I'm not ready to commit to them yet.

Me and wife are starting P90X also. About 3 years ago I did the whole "lose weight resolution" and lost almost 60 lbs and was in the best shape of my life. Well like a dumbass when I got to where I wanted to be I slacked off. I havent gained it all back by no means just makes me pissed off at myself.
Also I have about the same amount of games to finish up. And I am still adding which is a little overwhelming.

Yeah, it really requires a bit of a lifestyle change to truly kick the habit if you ask me. I made a handful of previous attempts to quit but never lasted more than a month or two. Cold turkey never works. You really want some sort of aid whether you go with gum or the patch. I used the patch but what really helped me was not living with or even hanging out with other smokers for the first few weeks. If your significant other or roommate/s smoke then I wish ya the best of luck but if you just have friends that smoke tell em that your really trying to quit and not to take it personally if you don't wanna hang. I really thought the patch helped but it still took me a few months to completely lose the urge to wanna light one up while hanging out with or especially while drinking a few beers with friends. The first time I noticed that some random smoker's second-hand smoke outside a grocery store made me gag instead of want to smoke I knew I was over it.

Starting P90X (again) as well... and finish a bunch of the games accumulated over the years that aren't complete yet (that I keep adding to, too...)
(This seems to be a common set of goals...)

I wish you success, Michael!
I actually DID quit cold turkey. It's been 2 1/2 years since I threw down a half a smoke and told Melissa I was done and I haven't cheated once. Different things work for different people. I quit cold turkey about 10 years ago and lasted 8 months and screwed it all up with one bad day, so I guess I didn't have the motivation the first time.
I definitely agree with Irish that you must distance yourself from smokers as much as possible. Melissa has never smoked and we were about to have a baby, so really there was no room for smoking in my life. With the proper motivation and being surrounded with non-smokers, I found the strength to walk away and stay away!
I hope that anyone trying to quit finds the same strength in whatever way they need!

Thanks for the support. With me, it's all mental. I can beat the addiction to nicotine. I think I need to find something to keep my mind off cigarettes.

To try and get onto here a little more often. Continue to work out, so far iv gained maybe 15 lb of muscle and lose my belly and reclaim my 6 pac. Try harder in school. Try to not lose my temper so much. spend more time around the family.
oh and michael if u want to quit smoking, i suggest u tell yourself that "I will quit smoking this year" instead of "Im going to try to quit smoking this year" mind over matter. Good luck!!
