need a new RPG...

i'm having a hard time waiting for fable 2 (and i just looked up fallout 3, which also looks good) so i was wondering about blue dragon and eternal sonata. i played the demo for blue dragon. didn't care for it much. is the complete version any better? and i've heard alot of good things about eternal sonata, but i'm also hearing you have to play through the game 3 or 4 times to get all the achievements. would you guys recommend either of these?

I don't really like them or play them, but a buddy of mine is a RPG fanatic and he said he loved Eternal Sonata. He also said he loved Lost Odyssey.
i also loved LO. completed it awhile ago.

lost odyssey is a good rpg, eternal sonata is a bit more fun, but you DO have to play through at LEAST 2 times to get all the achieves... by the time you finish the first playthrough you feel kinda drained and don't want to go back through it again...
hell... i just finished the demo and i feel drained.
nice battle system, but i think i've gotten spoiled with oblivion and the like.

i completely agree with you, kidd. oblivion, morrowind, fable type stuff is what i need anymore. i used to be a JRPG freak but i don't think i can handle it anymore. (even though LO was awesome)
i also just tried the demo for tales of vesperia (?) and WOW was that garbage. guess i'll just wait for fable 2. nothing else out there right now catching my eye.

Raine let me ask you a question...what is it that makes you so into RPG?...I say that, and I mean, I know the ones that I have played have had great stories (some i just watched because like I said I dont get into turn based style games)
That would probably be a better way of asking the question...What about the turn based fighting style doesn't turn you off? I'm more of a hack and slash, are you more into the strategy and such? There is a form of strategy in the hack and slash, in a sense as well...but I see more strategy in the turn based styles

i haven't even heard of infinite undiscovery, if you can believe that.
if you thought that was more fun than LO i'll have to look into it.
and yeah, when i was younger i was huge into the old FF's, chrono trigger, and so on. and then there was secret of mana and secret of evermore which were brilliant "hack and slash" RPGs. i dunno if oblivion and the like just spoiled me, or if the JRPGs coming out these days are just done wrong. probably a combination of the two.

what console were secret of mana and secret of evermore for? If those are hack and slash RPGs than I'll have to look into them
I wish there was a store that had nothing but Video Games that you could rent...I go to the blockbuster here down the road and then don't have crap
but they got all the good movies so.....its a catch 22

IU is a lot better than LO, but not as long... it's active time battle, so there's a lot less waiting. The thing that drives me nuts in LO is I have gamble so every battle is 2 turns, and I just can't bring myself to play anymore. I have a few hours left and I haven't played it in months.
I think it's a combination of being spoiled by Oblivion type games and 360 jrpgs sucking... There's nothing innovative, nothing fun anymore. I think the last really good JRPG I've played with Odin Sphere, which is sorta xxx of mana style, and Ar Tonelico... I haven't played a FUN FUN FUN turn based since ps2
They're for super nintendo but there are games of that style on other systems. If you have a ds, children of mana is really fun!

Totally agreed, PS2 and PS1 had all the good turn based games. I miss Legend of Legia and Legend of Dragoon
