They said it was suppose to be something like what they did with Rage's multiplayer.
"Rumour becomes reality today, as Mass Effect 3's oft-mooted online multiplayer has finally been confirmed in Australian gaming magazine, PC PowerPlay, which features an article detailing the game's multiplayer having been on a trip to see BioWare.
"That's right - Mass Effect 3 is getting multiplayer!" exclaims the magazine. "We travel to BioWare's office in Edmonton for hands-on time with the series' first foray into online gameplay, and chat with Mass Effect Series Producer and Mass Effect 3 Project Director Casey Hudson about the decision to go multiplayer in the epic battle for the galaxy."
'Fight alongside your friends' is the cover tagline too, suggesting that online co-op is indeed in the offing, much like Rage's Legend of the Wasteland co-op missions, as we suggested when a page from a South African mag emerged last week advertising Mass Effect 3, listed online multiplayer among the features.
It also appears that Mass Effect 3's co-op missions will be an entirely separate mode, that will in no way affect the core single-player campaign. Sounds perfectly fine to us. Mass Effect 3 is out on March 6th, 2012."

It looks like there are no Kinect based achievements at all. On top of that, all multiplayer achievements can be obtained by doing certain tasks in the single player mode instead.
So for everyone with no friends, you will not need anyone to help with achievements, and you won't have to get off the couch and wave your arms to 1k ME3!

I'm planning on paying off my pre-order today or tomorrow. I'm very relieved to hear that the achievements are not going to rely on the use of my kinect or having to boost them online.

paid my CE off in January, I am so excited beyond belief. just re beat ME 1, gotta do my ME 2 insanity playthrough and i'll have all the achievements in ME 2.

I am doing one 'clean' play thru right now, getting all of the story points that I would like to see and doing all of the side missions. Totally glad that ME3 is not going to be dependent on MP. That would suck.

The only thing that worries me is the rumors about this game getting rid of the "crew" aspect. And only giving you guest party members dependant on which planet your on. Only Liara, Ashley/Kaiden and James Vega have been confirmed to appear along side you in battle more then once. I personally liked collecting party members and visiting with them on my ship in previous titles.

Not really as both Garrus and Tali can be "Dead" for some people. So they obviously can't be crucial characters to the plot can they?

Both Wrex + Grunt are alive in the storyline I just got done playing, I am waiting to see what happens with them...and Liara. I resparked the romance angle with her and now she's the new Shadow Broker. I am just itching to see how this all turns out!!!

Of course both Wrex and Grunt can also be dead in ME3 per the results of Virmire and the suicide mission.
