Aiden is right. While I like both games and have played both more then once, that is my choice. If you are not intolenghty games a quick play through ME 1 is a good idea to get witht the story and to import your character info to ME2.

Playing Mass Effect, if only for the import into Mass Effect 2, is a good idea. You can beat the game in maybe two days on Casual, if you skip all the conversations.
The game is amazing, but if you start with Mass Effect 2, you won't find the initiative to play the first game.

I agree with the general consensus here: go ahead and skip ME1. Just pay attention during the intro if you want to actually enjoy the story and game.
If you don't want to get in to the story at all, then yeah you might want to sell back or trade them for something else.

Thanks for all the input.
Sounds like if I can get a hold of ME1 I will try a quick playthrough until I finish or get bored. Then dive in to ME2

I can't believe so many of you think ME1 is boring. Why would you buy an RPG if you don't like them? If you wanted a shooter, there's a million others that are better than ME2, because ME2 is far from an RPG. It's nothing more than a third person shooter with a good story.

I liked the first Mass Effect, though not as good as the second it's at least worth a playthrough to import your character into the second game to have some idea of the story and have some of your attributes and decisions from the first continue on through the second and ultimately the third game. Not totally necessary but it's worth it, plus you only have to beat the second game once if you beat the first game to get an achievement.

Mass effect 1 personally is the best game on the 360.....it has the best story and some amazing graphics....i actually like part 1 better than 2....yeah it was slower, but overall a better game....i played through mass effect 1 about 20 times(really)....i played through mass effect 2 about 10 times.......Hands down it doesn't make sense to play a part 2 of something without playing part 1, its pretty much common sense...But its ur decision whatever u chose to do is fine, but i would play part 1 first..

I bought both of these and want to start them soon. Its amazing how different people's views of 1 vs 2 are. I am going to play both but not sure what to expect now.

Mass Effect 2 is much better than 1 but I'd still give 1 at least one playthrough for the story and to import your character into 2. I got 1 and beat it right after it came out and loved it but 1 isn't nearly as great or action packed as 2. If you wanna complete ME1 it'll take you 2-3 playthroughs though plus there's DLC achieves on both.

I really enjoyed my 2 playthroughs of ME1 when it was just out, but they improved and refined so much with ME2 that when I went back to do a 3rd play of ME1 I just couldn't maintain interest because the gameplay sections were less fun and the decisions/good conversations too few & far between.
