wat it is?

A single-player action role-playing game that has been favourably compared to Dark Souls and Demons Souls for its challenging-but-rewarding combat, crazy bosses, and gameplay that rewards exploration and learning your enemies.

lol wut?

Lords of the Fallen is being developed by City Interactive Games & Deck13, and published by CI Games. The executive producer Tomasz Gop has worked on other games previously, including The Witcher 2.

It is being developed exclusively for the "new gen" systems, Xbox One and PS4, as well as PC. This means it will take advantage of the systems' power, especially for things like particles, physics and lighting.

You play an established character named Harkin, but you choose from 1 of 3 over-arching styles at the beginning, and then further shape your character through chosen skills as well as what weapons and armors you use, none of which are tied to a specific "class". The developer has said that if you want to make a magic-wielding archer that wears heavy armor, you can.

The game is slated for a fourth-quarter 2014 release, and since it has already passed alpha status, may come out in early October.

I was reading about this game is the latest issue of Game Informer, and those videos you posted piqued my interest from hmmmmm to HUZZAH!

I don't think so. Every article I've read calls it single-player, and the dev has never mentioned anything like player invasions or co-op.

Both. The developer has said the difficulty and mechanics together are what keep drawing so many comparisons to Dark Souls. The difference with Lords is that, instead of defining your character by a class choice before starting and then slowly adding stat points, you will create your character as you go by what skills you take and what weapons & armor you use. The initial class choice only determines a few starting skills and doesn't lock you out of anything later.

Another difference is that this game's story is presented a little more traditionally (ie with cutscenes and the like) rather than being obtuse like Demons Souls and the first Dark Souls. Also, the developer has said that veterans of the Souls games will find Lords less difficult than newbies coming in, and that you can potentially lower the difficulty of the first few hours by relying almost completely on magic.

Yeah I was thinking this too, TK. The gameplay footage above is pre-alpha, so hopefully as the game gets closer to gold we will see flashier graphics and faster, smoother combat.

Quick update: Lords of the Fallen is still on track for retail release October 28th.

There will also be a Limited Edition and I'll make a note here when I find out what's supposed to be in it.
