Welcome to Kat's Korner- Episode three!

Today, before I get to the news, I'd like to ask you a question. Yes- you. How do you feel about the Kinect? There are so many games now that are being released with either Kinect bits or entirely for the Kinect, and it is obvious that Microsoft is determined to make the Kinect a success. Obviously, no one asked us- gamers- what we thought about it before they invested the money into the research and development, but now that it's a few years old, how do you feel about it? Have you played many Kinect games? Has your opinion of the Kinect changed with time?

For me personally, I was excited about the Kinect before it released. I thought it was a great idea with great potential. I loved the "Minority Report" feel of sweeping your hands to change the menus and the potential for weight loss/ exercise games. Over the time I've had a Kinect, though, my opinion is changing. With the emphasis on making more "full length" Kinect games (Star Wars, Dragonball, and even GOW rumors!) it appears that no one is listening to any complaints. Repeated jumping, lurching forward, and swinging your arms wildly in front of you for a 20 hour game is bad enough, but when the sensor doesn't pick up your movements and you have to keep doing them over and over again, it's not something I can get hyped up for.

The Kinect did, does, and will work great for short bursts- it's the Wario Ware of video games, in my opinion. But, like Wario Ware, it loses its charm over extended sessions. Beyond that, a $50 pricetag for new releases seems like it just misses the mark of what the Kinect was supposed to be for. I'd like to see more minigames for lower price tags, and less "Super-action-ninja-hero-kicks-butt-for-hours-at-a-time" for almost as much as a full priced game.

So that's all I have to say about that. Let's move on to some industry news, huh?

First and foremost on everyone's minds, 2k games has announced that Bioshock: Infinite, originally slated for an October 2012 release, has been pushed back to February 26, 2013. This heartbreaking announcement came from Ken Levine, the creative director of Irrational Games himself.

When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing. Since then, we’ve uncovered opportunities to make Infinite into something even more extraordinary. Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need to deliver the best Infinite possible, we’ve decided to move the game’s release to February.

I don't know about everyone else, but my October has been officially ruined.

Van Helsing is slated to make a splash on XBLA in Q4 2012. Neocore Games is developing The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, and they promise to deliver a role playing game full of snappy dialogue and a beautiful dark and gothic art style. Expect more news as the details become available, or visit the official facebook page here.

If you plan to play Max Payne 3 and want to create or join a crew through Rockstar's social club, the time is now! Go to the social club, make your own crew, design your own emblem and more! Crews created before May 15th will be called "founder crews" and will get a special design on their crew tag, as well as special deals and offers down the road.

Pokemon may not be Xbox 360 related, but it's been a topic of conversation once or twice and it is, apparently, not dead. So to let any closet Pokefreaks know, Nintendo is running a promotion for Black and White players to recieve a Darkrai from now until June 10th. Get your mystery gift through Nintendo WFC if you're interested.

The bestselling iPhone app Feed Me Oil is now available for Windows Phones. The premise of the app is using different objects and elements to get oil from one point to another, saving the environment. You can pick it up today, for $.99.

Prototype 2 isn't done yet! A DLC pack releases today, with another set to release May 29th. The packs cost 400 msp each, and will each contain the following:

It appears that there are no new missions or achievements.

Capcom has recently released the logo for the upcoming Resident Evil 6. I assume everyone is as excited as I am for this game and wants to see it, so here it is!

Ooooh!

Fans of the game Carmageddon can rejoice... and reach for their wallets. Stainless Games has begun development of a reboot for the game and, as a way to fund it, has started a Kickstarter campaign. Stainless is hoping to raise the $400,000 they need to finish the game through private donations, enabling their team to keep complete control over the game. Donors can expect to be rewarded by the developers, including a chance to be featured in the game. A $15 donation will secure you a digital copy of the game, at the very least. Carmageddon: Reincarnation is being developed for digital download, so look for it to hit XBLA when it releases. If you'd like to donate, visit the Kickstarter page here. In the last 2 days, $169,000 of the necessary $400,000 has been raised!

Well, that's about all the news I have time for, be sure to keep an eye out for the next epsiode of Kat's Korner next Wednesday, where I'll tackle the real issues... or I'll just post a top 10 list of things Ashton Kutcher will never hear. It'll definitely be one of those things.

Hmm, might have to pop in Pokemon Black to get that damned Darkrai....Uhh I mean, I totally wouldn't play those kids games, feh.

I do like the Kinect, but I agree sometimes the games are just too long - or short and overpriced. Sometimes I want to break the thing, but for the most part it does track okay, it seems more dependent on the game for whether it tracks well or poorly.

.....and I think its a shame that no flaming can happen even if they are incestuous bastards... who else are we going to make fun of then?!

Microsoft can shove the kinect straight up their collective ass. I still have zero interest in buying one. There's yet to be a kinect exclusive title that's made me want to buy one and if Star Wars can't do it for me then I don't see how any future title will. This is the first I'm hearing about BioShock Infinite being delayed but in the long run I won't be that disappointed if it truly allows them to make the game that much better. I just seriously hope they're not delaying it for any MP bullshit. Then I would be pissed.

The only real interest I have in the Kinect is for the easy 1K's - otherwise I am happy with my 360 the way it is.

I like this feature, Kat!

As far as Bioshock is concerned, my stance is although I'm moderately disappointed, I have confidence that the end will justify the means. In which case, don't ship the damned thing until it's good and ready!

I call BS on next time we see it will be finished! I'll believe it when I don't see it!

If Johnny 5 and Wall-E had a baby it would be the Kinect (with console). Let the Kinect learn from its parents and make games teaching us to speed read and clean up trash. :nerd:

I got to play test a Kinect right before it came out and I found it to be fairly boring and way too inaccurate to ever play real games with. Many people have bought it since then and sworn to me up and down that it is responsive and fun, but professional reviews I read of the games say otherwise. Maybe 1 out of every 7 or 8 will get a reviewer that praises it for being able to replicate your movements well enough to provide quality gaming, but even then all positive reactions I have read always include the disclaimer "it's good... for a Kinect game."

So far, no software for the peripheral has gotten much of my interest, but at this point I think I would continue to pass on the Kinect even if it got a AAA title from a game series I love.

I have been looking forward to Bioshock Infinite with mixed reactions to previews but, as with any other game, I would prefer it take longer than expected to release at retail if that means less bugs and more polish.

I actually loved the original Carmageddon on PC and I am curious what they are planning to do with the upcoming reboot.

I hope the Van Helsing game turns out to be fun, the Xbox can always use more RPGs.

I personally hate the Kinect and the shit titles they put out as much as I hate the avatars, it makes me just wanna facepalm at Microsoft every time I see all the garbage on xbox.com and plastered all over the dashboard like they forgot you have to be OVER the age of 13 to sign up for xbox live in the first place, it looks like they're trying to cater to anyone UNDER the age of 10 with all the purple rainbow bullshit everywhere :rofl:

BUT, that's just my opinion as I grow more cynical with age

Excited for RE6 though and I knew at least one of those major titles would be delayed, next up will be Borderlands 2, fingers crossed that doesn't happen.

As Kinect goes, to me it only works for certain games; like party games, kids games and rarely a couple of mature games. I feel like a fool if I'm screaming commands at my TV. I do enjoy it on a weekend afternoon with my kids, but it's not really that appealing to me.

I'v been trying to have a few completions on those free kinect games on the weekends, but I always end up finding something else to do. I guess some day I will do it, but for now, still not for me.

Good Job Kat...like your style!!!

As for the Kinect I don't have it YET. I'm sure I will at some point win the price is right or the next time I'm Drunk shopping!!!

This what I think...

The Kinect is for Family play and Party's. It would seem that those that use it by themselves are not as thrilled with it. The only game I've seen were I would like to use one for solo play is Mass Effect 3.

On the other hand I went to a local fund raiser where they had several 360/Kinects set up with lighting and sound systems and Had a Frick'n BLAST. I wish there was a club or a bar like that, I would go every weekend.

360/Kinect + lots of Drunk People = Loads of Fun!!!
