Japanese 360 411 thread

I've been considering importing a Japanese 360, & thought I would share my research online. The consensus seems to be, to go through Ebay, or PLAY-ASIA.com, but those seem to run around the price of a new USA 360, unless you get lucky. Amazon typically has good deals, that you don't have to involve paypal, or 3rd parties. I thought I would share the below link- for a direct "Japanese-to-English amazon.co.jp":

The symbols within this link, stand for "Ka-Ta-Ka-Na" (foreign / romanji), which is more accessible. As you will see- there are many used 360's, for very reasonable prices, available for import. Amazon will automatically convert your $ dollar, to the yen, so it's a very painless process, & you can choose the most economical shipping option.

I'm happy that the Xbox One does not have a region lock- so we won't need to encounter similar issues, but I thought I would create this thread, in case others are interested in importing. If any past importers have thoughts to share, please help those newcomers, & ganbatte kudasai

Here is a great link that shows which games have multiple sets of achievements in different territories, listed A-Z. Mass Effect 2, for instance, is the only game in the series that has separate Japanese achievements. Consult this list before doing any importing:

What's a repo? I'm glad Xbox One / PS4 don't have region locks. For fighting games I prefer the Japanese voiceovers (Street Fighter, Dead or Alive etc), and a lot of times the Japanese box art is superior to the USA one, not always- but usually (if they're different). Repo = repossession?

Case in point: the Mass Effect 1 box art in Japan:

Japanese to English auto-convertor, since I suck at Kanji. Anyone trying to import, just copy/paste text, so you know what's what. I know I'm in the minority, but reliving "achievements" kind of feels like reliving the same game twice, that you grew to love. So hoping this helps anyone on the fence, about imports. Happy gaming

But ME2 Japan also has unobtainable achievements. So there is that....

Yeah I think a Repo and a Mini would be much better than any old website :laugh:

Do you have to put games in upside-down in a Japanese 360? Do you have to use chopsticks or will regular controllers work?

So I just went to buy one off amazon.jp & learned that amazon japan doesn't ship internationally for any of their games / consoles. I guess it's off to ebay. Which Mass Effect 2 achievements are unreachable? Maybe for the DLC, which I heard is region locked too.

From what I gathered, Mass Effect 2, both Dragon Age 1 & 2, Witcher 2, as well as Atlus games like Deathsmiles and Catherine, all can be replayed for new achievements. And it appears there's a lot of good (old school) shooters that never released over here. I just don't get why amazon japan (and the law itself) would be so difficult. Take my money! Now most likely I'll just ebay it off someone in the United States, and that's money the Japanese economy will never see.

Being closed off helps them... how?

Same thing if you try to purchase of any of the European Amazon sites. You can't ship stuff over here, even if the seller supposedly does ship it here.

Dragon Ages do stack, but it's all in Japanese, so you either need to follow a very detailed guide, or do what I'm doing with MagnaCarta 2 right now, play one in English and then immediately in Japanese. ME2 it is the DLC IIRC that is broken, still unobtainable is unobtainable to me.

Edit: And Snapple, IMO Japanese is better, they have more exclusive games in Japan, even if 90% of them are Shmups or Visual Novels, they are still exclusive.

Actually I recently bought my latest movie off amazon.co.uk & also the german amazon, it was crazy 2 euros to ship from germany to Los Angeles, got it within a week. That's what tipped me off that I should try japan amazon. maybe video games are different than movies?

I have a passing understanding of Japanese. It's not all that scary-- a lot of western games must be full of katanana. Should be able to pick out Mi-Ra-n-Da or Ri-a-ra etc. If I shout "BANZAI!" at my kinect, will it make them charge? It's the little things...

So I hope this thread helps anyone on the fence about it, I just found a Mother 30 miles away from me selling an asian 360S 250gb off craigslist... for $120. Seriously? Hoping to drive and pick it up in the next few days... seeing it working in person will be awesome, so there's no funny business.

The manga-novel games don't look too bad. Steins Gate & its sequel are suppose to be really good, from what I'm reading about it. A microwave that sends you into the past? It's like Japanese Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.

< am now the proud owner of an Asian 360S for $120. She threw in the 220v to 110v transformer & an HDMI cable. I almost felt bad, until I saw her house. Just didn't know she could've sold it for over three times the amount.

Didn't intend this, (was going for an Japanese not Asian console- Japanese ones use the same 110v as in America), but since I have a transformer, a European console isn't out of the question.

Import suggestions? I didn't see another import topic, so any experience or insight that can shared for newbies like me, is welcome.
