This is an idea I've had in the back of my mind for a while now...
I can think of several games that feature a last-man-standing type of multi-player mode (for instance: Corruption on AC Revelations, or Infection on Time Splitters, or even battle mode in Mariokart), how come this idea hasn't been extended further?

I want to see a game that throws 16-20 players together in an arena, scatters some weapons around for them to find, and leave them to elimate each other one at a time until there's only one remaining survivor.

Does anyone know of a game like this that already exists, or am I the only person that thinks this sounds cool?

There's a minecraft mod/gamemode or something that does this. Not being a minecraft player I don't remember how to access it but it was definatly out there and when I checked quite active.

EDIT: Not sure but I think this may have been what I heard about months ago: http://www.lcpvp.com/

I'm not a minecraft player either, but that's basically what I'm talking about! Is that just for PC minecraft or would it work on xbox as well?

Now I'm no expert by any means and I'd assume the forums there would tell you all you need to know but from what I know about PC and Xbox games I'd say that is is PC only due to the fact they are run on custom servers. If you need the free or paid version of the game I dunno, thats a question for them.

But that is the only thing remotley close to what your talking about that I know of, I've seen players try to do Hunger Games like game modes on their own but its never worked out very well.

I would give a Hunger Games video game a shot if it had a single player mode. I'm not much for multiplayer or online gameplay. I would really be turned off if it was just another FPS game like CoD, Halo or Metal of Honor. I would want a good storyline and such, not just run around and shoot whatever moves. But in all honesty, I don't think there's enough for a decent video game.

Yes, a hunger games server would be pc only, that's who has servers... I'm pretty sure it would have to be a paid copy, as well.

I would play a hunger games game... If it was an RPG!!!

I have to agree with this.

Thinking about the books/movie and what would translate well to a game there really isn't much that would be enjoyable.

Granted the three main points of the game would be A) Raising money for those packages, B) Staying alive and C) killing other people points A and B would consist of a majority of the game.

So in general games would start out with some sort of hand to hand combat (assassins creed style?) have you run off and collect suplies to survive (remember that game Lost In Blue that launched with the DS? Yeah thats what you did there, there's a reason it wasn't very popular). And after that you'd probably controll your mentor going through "social battles" like in the the Sims or maybe Deus Ex to try to get them to give you money.

And lets not forget if you add multiplayer there's always the chance people will just avoid others and try to survive possibly making the game last for hours.

Doesn' really sound like a winning calibur game to me, maybe an 800 MSP arcade game but not much more.

It depends on whether the game was dome combat only or spanning all 3 books. Obviously using all 3 books gives plenty of material for a game. Especially if they do a Game of Thrones move and use characters from the world but not the books.

Having the game be simply games combat only still probably would be as much as some shooters out there. Maybe the story mode for single player would be playing through the games of everyone who was in the 2nd book, since she touched on a lot of that. The multiplayer aspect would let you choose characters and various game maps and incorporate survival from the game masters in it as well as getting "style points" to earn sponsor gifts?

Idk, there seem like a lot of possibilities.

Well put Kat, I hadn't thought of an actual adaptation from the books mostly because of the fact that it would be mostly like that Harry Potter games where its basically a massive fetch quest with puzzles. Thats why I just assummed it would be the format of the games with new non-cannon characters.

Using the champions for the 2nd book and replaying their victories would actually work though because there were a large part of those games that went untold, making the major points cut scenes would actually make for a decent game if done correctly, how to tie it together cohesivly would be slightly more difficult again because if you follow the book the ending would be scripted actions and not much fun.

Still being said though I think the best way to do it would be with new characters and a larger focus on the combat and less on the survival than the book but then again I'm not a developer so who knows what would give the best experience.

In regards to multi-player, there's plenty of ways to encourage combat and discourage people to just run and hide. In the book, the participants encountered several natural (and unnatural) obstacles that kept them from straying too far out of the action.
Another way would be to borrow the gimmick from the book Battle Royale, where all the kids were stuck on an island, and different sections of the island would become "death zones" that killed them if they entered the area. Overtime the playable area became smaller and smaller so you could never hunker down in one section forever.
Running and hiding would still occur, but it would at least discourage the practice of staying in one place for too long.

I LOVE the idea of "style points" to impress sponsors; kind of reminiscent of Assassin's Creed kill points system... Gives me another idea based around character customization:
What if you could choose which skills you were profficient with? For instance: Anyone can use a bow and arrow, but only those profficient with a bow(and lucky enough to find one) would have cross-hairs enabled? Just as an example

There seems to be a lot of potential... Maybe the storyline could be more single player oriented, but once you step into the Arena it becomes multiplayer

Maybe that could be part too? Like the training weeks before the games?

And I agree, in the books the game maps would do as much killing as other players.

Unfortunately, if a game is made it'll probably suck... It's a movie game, after all!

Uhhh... Resident Evil was a game first.... The movies are just some of the rare good videogame movies.

And on that note if a good game was to be made waiting for more movies to come out wont make the game any better. In fact in my opinion it could make it worse because the devs will try to incorporate more of the story into the game bogging it down and detracting from the actual gameplay.
