not really a deal i guess but for 499.00 if you preorder and 799.00 if you wait so might be a deal

What are you going to play on it? Not trying to be smart, but there is limited HD or Blu Ray DVD content available.

Personally, I think this whole HD and Blu Ray DVD will flop miserably for the first 4-5 years. Over half the US population purchased their FIRST dvd player within the last 2 years.

These people will not be anxious to start spending money on new equipment, connection, etc...

In addition, there is serious question as to whether current HD TV owners have enough digital inputs that accomodate HDCP standards to hook these puppies up.

This whole roll-out had the potential to be something special, but they couldn't get their sh*t together and come up with industry standards, so we are stuck with competing formats in a market that probably will have little to no demand initially.

LG Drops Blu-ray, LCoS, PMC From Lineup
Two plasmas also are dropped, HD DVD/Blu-ray deck planned for fall debut

Englewood Cliffs, N.J. LG Electronics notified dealers that it has dropped plans to ship a Blu-ray Disc player, its first LCoS rear-projection sets, a pair of plasma models and a family of Portable Media Center (PMC) products. Most of the products were due to ship this spring.

Instead of delivering the Blu-ray Disc player, LG told dealers it is instead working to develop a dual-format HD DVD/Blu-ray Disc player, which could come to market this fall.

In a memo to dealers from Bob Perry, LG sales VP, which LG sent to TWICE, the company said in light of uncertainty in this early stage of the market for prerecorded high-definition optical discs, we have decided not to introduce the BD199 as originally planned for this spring.

Perry had no further details on the dual-format player at this time. However, the announcement came shortly after LG's parent company said it reached an intellectual property-sharing agreement with Toshiba for the development of next-generation optical disc drives, including HD DVDs.

dvd's look great in general, hd-dvd couldnt really make it that much different

HD DVD's do look alot better than regular DVD's. but my problem is my fear of getting stuck with the wrong one after investing $$$ on it. I will love to have one of each but that is not reasonable in my household
