I personally don't believe Boosting is cheating & I don't think you should worry about being reported because half of the people on Xbox Live would be reported.

I DO NOT think boosting is cheating and Crook is right almost everyone would be at fault in one way or another.

if youre JUST sitting there to boost (ie leaving your xbox on) i dont think thats exactly very fair. i wouldnt go so far to say its cheating, but its not exactly legit/boosting either (ie, passive farming for the robolution collection achieves) but i think if you have to actively participate to do it (like halo achieves, fracture mp, etc) then no, its not cheating.

Lol, I did that for Lt. Colonel in Reach. I just rubberbanded my joysticks together and let Invasion run all night while I was sleeping for a couple nights and then I got the achievement. It's definitely not cheating, it's just not playing. I wouldn't even consider it boosting because it doesn't matter who's in the game, it's not your friends and you're not doing anything wrong. Sure you're hurting your team but so is everyone who joins just to teamkill. If you really think about it, for kill dependent game modes like Slayer, you're actually helping your team but giving the other team one less person to kill (if you hide in a good spot).

I'm going to agree with the majority here.
I know there are people out there who say that boosters can ruin online matches, and that is true, but smart boosters are boosting in a way that doesn't impede anyone else's opportunity to enjoy a game. When I've boosted in the past, we rarely allow randoms in just to be sure that nobody in the lobby happens upon a session in search of an actual game. Also, I really only boost games that have long since lost their online popularity.
Stupid boosters (the ones that give boosters a bad name) do it regardless of who they are in a game with, regardless of how popular the game still is, and use in game exploits to get whatever it is they are after. Yes, those gamers ruin everyone's online experience, but it is my firm belief that such disregard for everyone else would ruin everyone's experience, whether those gamers are boosting or not.
I feel that boosting is not cheating, but strategy. I will use the best strategy to gain achievements that I can find! We just have to be sure that we don't infringe on other gamer's rights to enjoy games their way in our achievemental pursuits!

Exactly. But sometimes extreme measures are required, like in COD3 where legit players will purposely follow you just to stop your boosting fun.
So you give their candy-asses the TREATMENT!!!!!

it helps while hindering your team. sure, the enemy has one less person to kill. BUT, at the same time, your team has one less gun shooting at the enemy to take them down.
and when youre doing NOTHING to get an achievement, thats basically cheating, or just not worth the achievement. its not called an achievement because you sat on your ass for a few hours (doing nothing) or just left your controller sitting there for god knows how long. then its not an achievement. then its just fucking pointless and a waste of time, especially for a game like halo. its not really THAT hard of a game to play/learn...

When you have to play a game for 50 hours just to hit a certain level for an achievement, that's not worth it at all. I'd rather be watching TV or a movie and letting it run and collecting credits. Since your definition of cheating involves not doing anything for an achievement I guess if you ever played Saw or Truth or Square you'd never complete them because they require you to do nothing for so long to get an achievement.
Cheating = gamesaving/system modding. There's nothing against XBL ToS for sitting in a MP game doing nothing. If game developers thought that was cheating then they could work in a kick out system.

I used the search function and didn't see a topic about this, but if there is / has been I am sorry for doubling up. I pose this question cause some douchewad who was on my friends list invited me to play a game while I was in a boosting session. He informed me that it was a form of cheating and he reported me to xbox. Should I fear a suspension?
No you shouldn't fear because you weren't:
a) glitching an exploit in the game.
b) boosting the game to gain an unfair advantage over the other team. (CoD!!!!)
c) you didn't break any rules to incur a suspension or ban.
As far as your friend goes, I'd delete him off your live for being a cock gobbler.
i should said glitching too lol i forgot that boosting is no more cheating then playing the game normally
