Melissa has it. This portion of the forum is just to brainstorm. Throw out ideas. Let the creative juices start flowing. Etc.
As far as who runs it, I've already volunteered to get things going. If you want someone else to do it, that is fine with me and no hard feelings. Just let me know before I really start pouring a lot of energy into this community playdate. I don't want anything in return except to see Xbox America on xbox.com or when I fire up my xbox and see it on the feature section.

Should we choose a game that hasn't even come out yet?
#1- Not everyone wants to have to rush out and spend $60 for this. (please remember, kids- some of us buy our own games. And $60 is still the better part of a $100 bill. I waste a lot of money, but paying $60 for a game that I'm not really into the genre of is something I'm not willing to do, and I imagine there are others who'd agree)
#2- When games first come out, they're glitchy and unpatched. A lot of times it takes a few months to fix MP for games.
#3- It might be just plain bad.

Not trying to be rude but I think the remember kids need to be reworded you really dont know who is a kid and whos not (Yeah its something small but im not a kid). Im willing the play whatever. From old games to new. Yeah I have bills to pay and mouths to feed also. So we should try to get this figured out so everyone who doesnt have the game has a chance to pick it up. Also who cares if you buy your own games or get them through gamefly it doesnt matter if you still have it. Sorry im not trying to get on you but damn it does it really matter where we get our games from new or used?
I believe Melissa was using the term "kids" much in the same manner I do. I call people "kids" who are my age or older, its about having your priorities straight. If video games are your priority (say over everything else in life) dropping $60 is no big deal. But if you're like me, unemployed, in school with two kids: buying a $60 dollar game to participate in a community playdate means that I'm missing this one too If you're priorities are in line and you have $60 to spend, more power to you
I'm not 100% sure on any game but if I had to pick I would think Gears 2 would be good (since it is fun MP and not as expensive to pick up). I'm still not terribly against the Shadowrun idea simply because its even cheaper to pick up and you would probably have less random kids coming in to participate (and by kids I mean snotty 13 year olds - not the good 13 year olds ).
I would offer to help with this, but frankly I have too much on my plate as it is.
Edit: Regardless of what game we pick I think the community as a whole needs to be prepared for an influx of member who want to talk about that particular game. I know myself and other staff members will do our best to keep the duplicate/unnecessary threads to a minimum, but hopefully all the other members will direct them kindly to another thread until one of us pops on and performs maid duties.

If you cannot afford new game why just go video store and rent it. Community playdate is only on one day.

I have one place around here that rents video games. First off I don't have a membership because my ex-wife used to be on my membership there and she stole/kept/whatever several movies and now I can not get a membership without paying the $80 she owes.
Second, not everyone else has access to a rental service. Or if they do there is no guarantee they can rent the game that is up for the playdate.
Third, even if I did have access they charge $10 for a two day rental. As I said previously I don't have a lot of money and its not worth my time to get a $10 game I can play for two days.
Fourth - I still agree with the fact that it might bring too many people at once. I like the idea of the site growing but as a moderator I don't feel like dealing with 100s of new members who don't understand how the community functions.

See I dont wait for the day that games come out to pay for them all my games I get are pre ordered and slowly payed for or I will pick them up used with trade in offers if im finished with games, Or I use gamefly. I also have 2 kids and one on the way. Video games are not my priorities, Im a full time college student and father why my old lady works and on top of that im getting $1000+ a month just for going to school from the VA. My kids and my family comes first. I dont give a shit what game we play but things need to be figured out in a timely manner so people who dont have the game can have time to get it. Get pissed if you want you cant speak up so can I.
I'm not sure what point you're trying to make bud. It sounds like you do have your priorities in order, so I'm not sure why (or if) you are upset. It is hard to tell tone from a message and like she said Melissa wasn't directing it at you. So I guess as a moderator to prevent this thread from spiraling off topic lets just drop it. The bottom line is there are plenty of members here who can't afford new games.
