I was able to try the Kinect as they had it set up at the Macy's in the Gallera in Houston.
I got to play an early version of Adventures which is the game where you're on a raft. I also got to try the car game (Kinect Joyride or something) and a bowling game. They also had an early version of Kinectimals but I didn't try it firsthand.
The Adventures one was ok, very fun to play side-by-side with a friend. The bowling was easily the best of what I played--it felt very weird to reach out in to the air and "pick up" a bowling ball before throwing it. The way the ball responded to your release angle and velocity was surprisingly accurate, and overall it was fun, even more fun than Wii bowling.
The huge problem with Kinect across every game was the lag aka response time. I don't have any concrete numbers but you could very obviously feel and even see the big difference between when you moved and when the action happened in the games.
Unless there is something hugely different about the production model versus the one they sent out to demo and beta, there is no way you could play a game requiring any sort of precision or timing with this hardware.
I will grab one when they are cheaper as others have said, and I am interested to see how it is incorporated in to GUI changes and what the second generation of Kinect-enabled software is like, but right now it's an expensive gimmick that doesn't do the type of games I want to play.
...although the dancing ones might be fun...

Maybe, if it sticks around, I will get it for Christmas 2011. By then, all of the bugs should be worked out + they might have some good games for it. Sometime between then and now, I will have to buy a new console...whenever I have an extra pile of cash laying around with nothing else to do with it...

I think that Kinect is kind of cool, but I'm going to hold off on it so that I can see what other kinds of games that will come out for it. Or see what current games will be able utilize it.
