I've read numerous reviews of this game and I've played the demo and as I suspected this game (so far) ain't that great. Seems to be a generic FPS. What do you think?

Alien vs Predator thoughts

The best version of Alien vs Predator by far is on the Atari Jaguar. Before Resident Evil on Playstation, this game had me scared as heck..looking over my shoulder everytime I heard a noise. Capcom made an arcade version many years back in the same side scrolling beat'em up style as Final Fight and that game was pretty darn good also. There also was a very good version on PC..but this Xbox 360 & PS3 version seems to be nothing more than a cash in on the movie name. Ever since the fall of Dreamcast, Sega has made more worthless games than I care to mention.

I really loved the two games on PC, playing as the marines was the most terrifying gaming experience I've ever had, worse than Doom 3 or FEAR or anything, my nerves were shattered for days. The online was surprisingly great and the community was robust.
So far I've heard that the new console AvP game's campaigns are very vanilla. People are also saying the multiplayer isn't any good but I can't imagine how they could have screwed it up? Hopefully I'll be able to try it out soon and see.

Never played AVP ever in my life, and the review in GI says this game sucks so I'm staying away from it.

Personally i've just played the demo so far but i have this qued up on gamefly. From what i played in the demo though there wasn't anything very good about it. It was very plain and lackluster and felt really generic like you said. The controls were clunky and it just wasnt very fun, i played with my friend and we only played like 2 games before being bored and moving on to the Battlefield demo. The reviews that it has been getting have not been very great either. Highest review ive seen was a 7 and i think that was being generous.

actual Alien vs Predator thoughts:
Predator: Switching vision mode. Human detected. Make room for another trophy.
Human: What was that? Wait... did you hear that? What- they're right on top of us?! OH MY G-
Alien: I wonder if I'll ever find that Weyland-Yutani pen... oh but it wrote so sublimely, practically floating across the page. Of course, now that I think of it, someone stepped on it and broke the casing so it may not hold ink very well. Still, I'm sure I didn't throw it away. I doubt anyone else threw it away either, everyone knew it was my favourite pen. Wait... maybe that's it! Maybe someone stole it! I bet it was that Predalien, he seems to think the entire planet is his oyster. Well I will definitely have to remember to have a word with him when next our paths cross. Of course I don't know for certain that it was him and it wouldn't do to just saunter up and point an accusatory finger, I suppose I'll have to perform a bit of detective work... insinuate myself closer to him and his cohorts, ask questions without appearing too forceful. Perhaps I'll host a box social and bake some of those coconut macaroons he's so fond of, then an invitation would seem innocuous enough! Yes, and perhaps get a few drinks in him. Once his tongue is loosened and he admits to pilfering my pen, then I shall... I shall... well, I'm not entirely sure what I will do. But it will be severe, mark my w- I say, is that a human down there? Right time for a nosh, I think!

I'm taking my game back either tomorrow or Friday and getting my money back. I bought it Sunday and finished the 3 campaigns in less than a day. I managed to get into 1 ranked game and the host quit because he lost first place and dropped to 3rd, so I didn't get the Deathmatch achievements

I sat for a little over an hour around 5pm on a weekday trying to get into any kind of Ranked match and couldn't. That's... not a good sign for a game that hasn't been out very long...
I played through the Alien campaign on Hard and I really enjoyed it, I felt like they did a good job adapting the control scheme to a controller and how with the gameplay you could either play it safe and go stealthy or do more bold, head-on attacks with the risk of getting squished easily.
I started to play through the Marine campaign, though, and I realized after the fist couple levels, you end up playing through the same areas. I loaded up the Predator campaign and it's the same way!
I don't mind that approach since the 3 campaigns are somewhat interwoven, but if they are going to keep re-using the same levels they should have put the same level of detail into all the environments as they did the character models and a few of the early moments. You go from this awesomely detailed modular human colony that looks exactly like stuff from the movies, in to this really bland jungle setting with low polygon rock faces... it's very odd.
At least they got the sounds and weapon feel right as far as the Marines go. The Pulse Rifles sound perfect, and the Smart Gun handles exactly how it should.
Definitely a rental and not a purchase since the online community is almost dead already. A crying shame!
