the reason I've come to a tie in first place is because these next two are simply just epic characters. Both have their main reasons why they couldn't be place over one another.

Master Chief- Halo 3- Xbox 360
As one of the premier main and playable characters in the history of video games it is very rare that we NEVER see the characters face. So throughout this epic storyline the player is forced to imagine what Master Chief's face really looks like.

and last but definitely not least....

Psycho Mantis- Metal Gear Solid (Twin Snakes)- PS1/ Gamecube
As one of the most memorable boss fights of all time, it was hard not to include this guy. This psychotic psychic was one hell of a fight. This character not only broke all the rules by making the player switch controllers, and memory cards, he often made players think the game was actually broken! His leather/latex gas mask is later removed only to show that he is not the same man without his mask.
