After slashing the price of the Xbox 360 lineup in Japan last week, it looks like the folks here in the states needing a replacement console will get it a bit cheaper. Major Nelson has posted on his blog that the Xbox 360 will drop in price for the Arcade, Pro and Elite models effective September 5th. The new pricing is as follows:
Arcade - $199
Pro - $299
Elite - $399
So that makes the Arcade the lowest priced console on the market, despite being a gimped PoS. Looks like Microsoft is ramping up early for the Holiday and Gears season with these cuts. Will be interesting to see if Sony bites the bullet and follows suit, or if Nintendo and their gimmicky Wii feel the need to get below the $200 barrier as well.
