There is an international organization called the World Wide Web Consortium, or W3C. They set the standards for web technology such as HTML, CSS and Javascript which all come together to form a webpage. As new technologies emerge, the W3C sets the standard for browsers to follow in hope that all webpages will display the same on all browsers.
Internet Explorer, more frequently than any other browser, completely ignores the standards set by the W3C. Instead, they create their own model that is usually inferior. This results in web developers having to jump through enormous hoops to create an effect that would be extremely simple if IE just complied with the W3C.
Unfortunately, too many people use Internet Explorer because it comes bundled with Windows, that there is no way developers could just not develop for MSIE.
While their motives weren't exactly completely altruistic, here's an
article on an EU complaint filed against Microsoft on the subject.
Thank you. That helped very much.

Safari is the best.
I would have to agree with you LOU, but seeing as I've only tried IE, Safari, and earlier forms of Firefox (at relatives houses), I might be wrong seeing as Firefox has a new model.
Also, can you get Firefox's latest model on a Mac? And will it run as well as if it were on a PC?
