Yeah, Firefox is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. I use Firefox on Mac, and it likely runs better than it does on Windows.

I never gave it much attention and used IE up until about 3 months ago.
Not only will you NOT be giving up anything by grabbing Firefox, you'll be gaining tons of stuff you didn't even know you were missing.

I totally agree with the Internet Explorer thing too, that has to be the worst out of all of them.
Seeing i dont have a mac, but i have used safari before (my school only has macs) it isnt much of a difference, but i do prefer firefox when i have the chance

Well, at its most basic, Firefox displays web pages more efficiently & accurately than IE. It's easier to load/install/use plug ins, easier to disable/parse ads/pop-ups, and having an inline spell checker is nice.
