I primarily use Firefox. I don't mind using Safari, however I will only use Internet Explorer when I absolutely have to. It's the worst of all modern browsers. Microsoft doesn't even attempt to follow the W3C standards. Instead, they have to implement their own inferior method so that developers have to satisfy them, and the rest of the internet. Honestly, if you care about the progression of the web, you should distance yourself from Internet Explorer.
Maybe a decreasing audience would force Microsoft to realize it needs to follow the W3C recommendations.

I never really cared too much for FireFox; IE7 is all I use.

google "firefox vs. ie".. i have never read a professional review that has rated IE higher then FF.. they are mostly reviews of FF2, so you can only imagine that FF3 is even better

Switch to Firefox. Yes it is that good.
It has so many small things that you might not even realize are possible without a lot of overhead.
Spell-check in form inputs, integrated search, tabs are kept in a deleted cache in case you crash out, there are so many things that it does better and more efficiently than Internet Explorer.
It is very simple to switch, Firefox can accept all your bookmarks/favorites from IE no problem.
Try it and you will be pleasantly surprised at how much better the intertubes can be.

There is an international organization called the World Wide Web Consortium, or W3C. They set the standards for web technology such as HTML, CSS and Javascript which all come together to form a webpage. As new technologies emerge, the W3C sets the standard for browsers to follow in hope that all webpages will display the same on all browsers.
Internet Explorer, more frequently than any other browser, completely ignores the standards set by the W3C. Instead, they create their own model that is usually inferior. This results in web developers having to jump through enormous hoops to create an effect that would be extremely simple if IE just complied with the W3C.
Unfortunately, too many people use Internet Explorer because it comes bundled with Windows, that there is no way developers could just not develop for MSIE.
While their motives weren't exactly completely altruistic, here's an article on an EU complaint filed against Microsoft on the subject.

I have simply never put any thought into it at all. I have just ALWAYS used IE. Being that I an not opposed to trying something new, I may give this some serious consideration.
If anyone has recently switched to FF from IE, I would like to know if there is anything that I would be giving up as I have never had a problem with IE before.

I use Safari as opposed to Firefox on the mac because it just feels more native and starts up significantly faster.
