Since this is a community that plays the 360, I was just curious to see what peoples thoughts on the new trophy system. It is being included in the new firmware update for the PS3 this Wednesday. I have all 3 next gen consoles so I am not really biased. I think it looks sweet.

I haven't heard anything about it. Is it similar to the achievement system?

i would guess so boobs. i mean, since the two are rival consoles, itd only make sense theyd try and get similar to them, its like how the 360 is going to have avatars to compete w/ the wii's little Mii characters

Very much so, each game has a variety of trophies that are bronze, silver, or gold. The gamer card shows how many of each trophy that you have, and they all add together to form your "level". If you complete all the trophies for that game, you get the platinum trophy for that game and it gives you a substantial amount towards your level. I think it's cool.

Yeah, but at least PS owners now have more to play for. The only thing that sucks is I guess when that update is available on Wednesday, if you already had beaten a game or had progress towards it, the trophies won't unlock, which means you have to start from scratch on anything. Thank god I didn't play into Gran Turismo 5 Prologue too much!

The only thing that truely SUCKS about this concept is the fact that all those games that you have already beaten will take another run through to get the "Trophies". Given that their are not a bunch of great games for the PS3 it really doesnt matter.
It is a cool idea that could possible help Sony's sales, but again they are not achievements and have no value to them. You can get a trophy but unlike Xbox their wont be a 50 gs points attached to it,

Ah, good choices though! I only have Gran Turismo lol. The show is always the best baseball game out every year IMO b/c of its depth. Uncharted was sweet, but it was too short. Graphics were awesome though.

I need to buy metal gear 4 still, but the 90 minute cut scenes have me trembling. I thought the first metal gear was one of the best games ever made but I am in no way a fanboy of MGS. I think they are trying to answer too many questions in the story. Kind of reminds me of the final season of the sopranos. If MGS4 follows that at all, then consider me as far away from that game as possible.

I guess it isn't too bad since they pretty much trashed the whole codec thing and all the stuff happens in movie, but still. The game is a very nice accomplishment and I'm glad to see its finally out. The difference in the look of the game compared to 2-3 years ago is astounding, and the game looked AMAZING then.
