Sharp announced today that the second generation of LCDs optimized for Gaming will become available in December of 2007. The 32" 1080p LCD models will sport three hi-gloss color schemes (black, dark wine red and white) and come equipped to handle the highest frame rates and features a Vyper Drive and Game Mode. Check out full details in the release after the jump:

Sharp Introduces 2nd Generation Full HD 1080p AQUOS(R) LCD TV Optimized for Gaming

Enhanced Gaming Features Accompany New Slim-line Design and Swivel Base for Greater Gaming Flexibility

MAHWAH, N.J. --(Business Wire)-- Dec. 6, 2007 Sharp, a worldwide leader in flat-panel Liquid Crystal Display Televisions (LCD TV), is introducing a second generation widescreen 32-inch (LC-32GP3U) Full HD 1080p AQUOS(R) LCD TV, created specifically for gamers. Built with the needs of gamers in mind, the new GP3U model handles the highest frame rates of even the most challenging video games and is equipped with special features that enhance the gaming experience.
Available in three glossy finish colors, black (LC-32GP3U-B), a unique dark wine red (LC-32GP3U-R) and white (LC-32GP3U-W), the new gaming series sports a striking new slim-line design, with a significantly smaller footprint, as well as a unique swivel stand for ultimate viewing and gaming flexibility. The bottom-placed speaker design reduces the overall width of the TV for a better fit inside cabinets and armoires.

"Through innovation and design, Sharp has again created a one-of-a-kind product that enhances the game-playing experience," said Bob Scaglione, senior vice president and group manager, Product and Marketing Group, Sharp Electronics Corporation. "The GP3U series offers consumers the technological prowess of Sharp's gaming-specific features, as well as a new design that opens up placement options for gamers."

Behind the high-gloss finish is a cutting-edge HDTV packed with special features. The Vyper Drive feature reduces the lag time between the game console input and the TV display to imperceptible levels. A "Game Mode" button on the remote control provides gamers quick access to the side terminal inputs, which are positioned for easy and convenient connection to a video game console and also activates Vyper Drive. Additionally, the user can change the Vyper Drive and Game Mode to a different input if they choose to connect to a rear terminal. A subwoofer audio output allows an active subwoofer connection for a strong bass sound and a more powerful gaming experience.

The GP3U model is equipped with a full array of connection options, including two sets of component inputs and three HDMI version 1.3 (x.v.Color(TM)), inputs, all compatible with 1080p signals from Blu-Ray and advanced gaming devices. The LC-32GP3U also supports 1920 x 1080 24 frames per second high-definition video for displaying cinematic content in its native format when played from a compatible video source. Easy PC connectivity is enabled through the 15-pin D-sub terminal or through the use of a DVI-I to HDMI adapter.

The GP3U set touts Full HD 1080p resolution, with Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View Panel and a 4-wavelength backlight system, for deeper, more vivid reds. With an impressive 10,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio, even in the darkest scenes, gamers will never miss a detail. A pixel response time of 6ms delivers smooth video playback in fast-moving action sequences.

As with all HD AQUOS models, the 32-inch set comes with built-in ATSC, clear QAM and NTSC tuners, offering compatibility with all available analog and digital over-the-air and cable TV programming. It also features a wide viewing angle of 176 degrees and a high brightness rating of 450 cd/m sq. The long-life backlight system provides 60,000 viewing hours under normal viewing conditions.

Pricing & Availability

-- The LC-32GP3U-B will be available in December for a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $1,599.99

-- The LC-32GP3U-R will be available in December for an MSRP of $1,599.99

-- The LC-32GP3U-W will be available in December for an MSRP of $1,599.99

these are indeed nice!
I am surprised, though, that since they are 'optimized for gaming' the response time is 6ms. I have a 22" LCD monitor i use right now that has 2ms, but it doesn't go quite as high in resolution and maybe size has something to do with it?

Pardon the ignorance but is the 15-pin d-sub connector a standard VGA plug?

Computer monitors and LCD TVs usually aren't comparable for when it comes to the refresh (MS= Milliseconds), which is why most people don't run their PC on their LCD TV. Traditionally, LCD TVs have a 8 - 6 MS rating, while PC monitors are 6 - 2 MS.

These are rated at 6 MS which is pretty good.
