elites rrod just as easily-same innards, just black plastic and 120gb hdd. i've lost 11 of these suckers and i keep it well ventilated and started, (about a year ago), returning to dashboard for about 5-10 minutes instead of just turning off the console after a hard worked gaming session. my theory is it helps to cool down the processor slowly rather than abruptly. idk, but they seem to last much longer now as i only lost one in the last year. they also use better components than they did at launch but the real problem is the design of the case-it doesn't allow the components inside to breathe adequately.

I've been doing this since day one (Jan '08) with mine and haven't had any problems (knock on wood). I also have it set to go to dashboard, instead of loading up whatever disc is in, every time I turn it on. And whether or not this helps-I have it lay flat instead of standing up.

Mine is an original launch console when it RRod'd the first time it was just about at the end of the 3 year warranty, maybe like a week left. Now it did it for the second time right at the end of the 1 year warranty that microsoft gave me when they fixed it. Mine been laying flat since I bought it and it has great ventillation. Guess I play it way to hard. I like your idea of going back to the dashboard before shutting it down.

I've always went back to the dashboard and let it sit for a little bit before shutting it down. I also have mine set to launch to the dashboard. I'm only on my third though. The one I have now is the one I bought while number two was in for repairs, I got an arcade. It has yet to have a problem (knock on wood). My old premium is still sitting beside it though just in case it decided to red ring.

I went ahead and got an elite with Halo 3 and Fable 2 since I didn't already have those games. I'm sending my old pro off to microsoft as soon as they send me the box. I think I'm gonna sell it to my aunt for her kids when it gets back since it will have a new warranty. Plus I like the fact that my Xbox and my PS3 match now.
