I guess it's not that October is the "forgotten month," but more like, "the month that has some great releases I don't have time to pick up but definately hope to around Christmas-time."
I know that this is the time of the year, for me, where I get strapped for cash and ask for some games for either Christmas or my birthday (which also falls in December). I do end up grabbing one game in October, usually a long one to keep my interest until the year ends. Last year it was "Splinter Cell: Double Agent," and this year it was "The Orange Box."
Honestly, the best release month is going to be November. But October is nothing to shrug off either. I'm sure that Halo 3 is still eclipsing these other games somewhat, but not as much as we think. We all know how long Halo multiplayer can last and that it never gets old, but people also love single player campaign modes, and games like "The Orange Box" are exactly what fills the void.
