Can anyone recommend a good online guide for oblivion? I'm using the one on gamespot and it has me lost as hell!

well... i don't really know what to say lol.
if you've at least figured out the tab bars, you can go to your quest log. make a certain quest your "active quest" and check the map. there should be a green arrow or something. your compass will also direct you RIGHT where you need to go.

I think that it would be very tough to find a comprehensive guide for a game that's the size of Oblivion, honestly. In my opinion, the best way to go about this game is to use the first few hours exploring the world and getting very "intimate" with your navigation system. It may seem too hard at first, but believe me, you will become fluent in no time.
This game is not actually that difficult.

Well, the main questline is about half of the points. Joining and completing all of the guilds are the other half. (Plus the arena questline)
I would complete all of the guild quests before doing the main quest. You will have better items that way. The final Oblivion Gates can be brutal.
After all of that, I suggest you download the Shivering Isles Add on if you don't have the GOtY Collectors edition that includes it. It's another 250 achievement points and it is just a fantastic game that could stand on its own.

I bought the GOTY Edition along with the GOTY Edition Strat Guide and it has helped me tremondously....although I have had to bug Evol a couple times with some questions. It took me about the third time buying the game to actually get into it and the only reason I haven't finished it is because I'm a fucken Vampire and I can't do shit during the day, so it makes it kind of hard.
On a side note, anybody know how to cure being a vampire?
But like Evol said, just wonder around and get familiar with the area, once you have discovered quite a few you can "fast travel" to that area. As for an online guide, I do not know of a good enough one, if you want, save your money and get one online or from gamestop, that's the best info I can give, only because I know the one I have is awesome.
Good Luck Man, the game isn't that hard as it was already stated, but there are a few challenging points, remember to SAVE A LOT AND SAVE OFTEN!!!!

I would definitely recommend doing the guild quests early, especially the Mages Guild. As Evol said, this will net you some great items.
GameFAQs.com actually has some terrific guides, but they are usually specific to a certain part of the game. Like iKidd said, if you want a comprehensive all-in-one guide your best bet is buying the GOTY Strategy Guide even if you don't have the extra DLC.

Do all the Arena fighting ASAP! You get good gold rewards and some nice armor when all is said and done. If you are having trouble beating the arena then move the difficulty slider all the way to the left in the options.

When I went through the game, all the achievements were pretty linear, but I had A LOT of questions about the game, and the one place I found all my answers, or close to all, was the wiki for Oblivion: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Oblivion
If you have any questions about quests, people, items, or anything just search for it on the wiki and you should be able to find your answers. I think you'll enjoy it more if you don't follow a guide telling you what to do, but just look for help if you need it.

Also a way to make your game go by easier, I hated always searching forgold, there is a itch to where you can get an unlimited amount of money, the o ly catch is you need to clear your cache and you have to play offline or it will re-download the patch that fixed the glitch, I think right now I have around 1.8 million dollars
