Well, I've recently moved and have gotten semi-settled. I've gotten the PC all hooked up and now have broadband internet; IMO is just a bit faster than the DSL I had at my old apartment.

Now comes Xbox LIVE....well that's been a problem...it seems ya just can't plug in the Ethernet cable and just go to town like I did with the DSL; oh no...I've gotta go out and buy a router, hope that'll work and, epic failure... no connect.

It seems I'm failing the DNS connection part...it really pisses me off...I'll have to call the cable company to see if they can help me with this.

Why does this have to be such a headache????:(

I think you have that backwards, Cable is plug and play no problem, DSL is the buggy one. I have plugged in to 8 or 9 differant cable conections and never had a problem. Who is your cable provider. You only need the router if you want your 360 and your pc both online at the same time.

unless you have a t1 connection(about $350.00 per month), cable surpasses dsl in performance. the only thing that dsl has over cable is consistency. cable uploads/download capability fluctuates as dsl is always constant. that's why with cable you might feel like one minute you get easy kills online and the next, not nearly the same. either way cable is still better.:)

all new to me of course, i tried connecting this and that, yada yada.
we have cable, by the way.

as said, you only need the router if you want internet and live at the same time.

I've done the power cycling of the systems and even at one time I've lost the internet connection to the PC somehow. I'm still not LIVE yet, I'm going to call Comcast Monday morning and see if they can force something on their end.

Well, as it turns out...the router is apparently not working. After talking with Linksys customer support for an hour; they told me the router I bought YESTERDAY will have it's warranty expired in October (which is next month) they suggested getting a "more updated" peice of equipment.

So, I called Comcast for giggles and spent 2 hours on the phone with them....OMG what a trial....power cycling...messing with cords...I had Xbox LIVE for like a few minutes...(by the way my Gscore updated, thanks to RB2...) but then I list PC internet...

The end result was...the router just wasn't cutting the mustard...

So close....yet so far....
