$50.00 a year is pretty cheap when you think about it. What can you really buy nowadays for $50.00? A dinner at Applebees, a 1/4 tank of gas, ..shit a month of 15/20 internet service costs about $80.00! A whole year of unlimited service is on the cheap side. Besides, if they raise the price to at least $100.00, I'm sure we will get better service than what we have now and I rarely even play multi-player games. I say, Microsoft, go for it!

No, it was serious Mudkip, what people don't understand is that inflation is a reality. nothing goes down, nothing stays the same, people don't make less money every year-they make more! It's called "Cost of living" and it'll be here as long as money exists! My health insurance also goes up every year-nothing I can do about it. i remember when my employer used to cover it 100% and now they only cover 90%, and that 10% increases every year. What's the last product or service that you saw maintain price or go down? I've been a member of xbox live since it's beta inception and it has been $50.00-TIMES CHANGE-SORRY!

well since u put it that way livewire, maybe you wouldn't mind forking out the extra cash for all the people that can't afford it? and u say your sure we would get better service? what exactly do you mean by that? i honestly think the service i get now is excellent! sure with any product out there people will have flaws and yes xbox live does have some flaws but i highly doubt with a $50.00 increase they will get fixed!!! if they do raise it i think i will just sell my xbox and not support microsoft in anything they make.

Actually prices do go down in a recession. Social Security for the first time ever will not have an increase for "cost of living" like it does every year. Prices for raw materials have never been this cheap the last 10 years. The global economy is not like it was the past 4-5 years and in turn there is not the demand there was 4-5 years ago. Higher demand equals higher price.
As for xbox live, it really has nothing to do with the recession or the economy. If Microsoft thinks that people will pay for it then they will increase it. I have no doubts all these add on, and new features are reasons Microsoft will give as to why they are increasing it. Don't forget online achievements mean gold membership, and just look at the leader boards.... Yeah Microsoft knows what there doing.

How can you say the cost of raw materials are now cheaper??I'm an electrician and the cost of copper has gone up! therefor, our prices, as well as the plumbers prices go up! Gas is back to hovering near $3.00 a gallon, oil is up! If you want the recession to go bye-bye, start spending people! I'm getting a brand new truck in the next few weeks so i'm doing my part!

Let me ask you this. How much do you pay per month for cell phone service? I pay nothing because I have to have one and it's paid for by my employer. I grew up without a cell phone-there was no such thing, and I would not pay for one if I had to because I think it's a waste of money!

I think Microsoft will be sneaky about any kind of price change.
First of all, they are watching PSN, to be sure. MS is very smart and extremely business savvy. They are unlikely to hang themselves with gamers who already believe to a certain extent that they are being ripped off when they pay $60 for their games. I won't even get into the inflation that has caused the extinction of 400 point XBLA titles. (and endangerment of 800 point games.)
My theory is that a third tier of Live service will be added at the $100 price point that Mr. Wire cX is so eager to support. I think Live Gold will stay at $50 year and Live Platinum will be introduced with all of the new services that MS has been refining over the last few months. (Primetime Channel, Twitter and Facebook support, Maybe the reinstatement of the Xbox Diamond card for all Platinum members, etc.)
I think Gold will still allow the procurement of online achievements, and allow full online support including Marketplace. (you don't think they would take away your opportunity to buy and spend MS points, do ya'? )
This is my theory, because I don't think Microsoft will just raise their prices without at least giving us the impression that we are getting more, whether we are or not.
