1. From what I've heard from people hands on with the iPhone for the most part is an amazing device that blows away most of the current cell phones out there. I'm unsure on how long it takes to produce them, or when production will start, but I'm sure some things will be resolved by the time it ships in June.

2. I have to agree about Cingular, and I will not be buying an iPhone until it's available for more carriers. I have Cingular now, and my plan is just about up. I don't plan on ever returning to Cingular again. I believe it won't be very long before they realize they should open to more carriers. One possibility for the reasoning of releasing their first cell phone ever with just one service could be to work out any problems. I highly doubt that this iPhone, and future models will continue to by limited to Cingular.

3&4. I'm sorry but you sound extremely biased. I'm sure I have some bias as well, but Mac OS is an amazing operating system. This is also a portable device. How does the lack of software or applications you mentioned has anything to do with this? It's a cell phone and media device. It's part of the functionality of a pocket PC, but with the ease of use and excellent design of an iPod. I can't really think of any other software I would want for my iPhone.

5. I have to admit, I'm not knowledgeable in any of those subjects. However, they all sound to me something that wouldn't exactly be something that would be displayed in the keynote presentation. Apple's presentations are about functionality, design, and usability. Things like security, and such are assumed. They just announced this, and I'm sure we don't have all the details. Of course, sense I'm not exactly an expert... or anything near it on these topics, I can't be sure.

6. It is definitely an expensive device. I wouldn't say that the casual user can't purchase this though. The iPhone incorporates a cell phone, complete full screen video iPod, and camera with an absolutely astounding interface. For all that, I'd say it's well deserving of a higher price. I would consider myself a casual user, and part of the target audience. I'm a 15 year old teen, and as soon as they support other carriers I will most likely be buying an iPhone.

*claps*

I agree %100 percent with all you said, but I do think Cingular is a good company.

and Z you do sound like a Bill Gates fanboy in your posts :p

I'm sorry Z, but you sound like a snooty Bill Gates lap dog and Microsoft fanboy in these posts.

I agree with you about Cingular, but besides that...

I have no allegiance with MS on this. This phone to me is nothing more than an Apple Ego thing.

Amazing yes, practical...absolutely not.

Good luck with that. Apple and Cingular signed a "multi-year" exclusive agreement. So at least a minimum of 2 years will be needed before it can come to another carrier (unless Cingular gets bought first). You also cannot buy the phone without a minimum of a two-year service contract, and those that already have Cingular must extend their contract by two years or they cannot purchase the phone.

Its not about MAC OS being amazing, its about the system not supporting what the majority of the Business world uses to do its Mobile work on a daily basis. Unless Apple says that Lotus Notes can work on its phone, it wont be there.

Which is fine, but they are not communicating these items even when asked. They either have something to hide, or don't have the legwork done yet.

It costs the same as a PS3, has only 4 or 8 gig of memory which would get swallowed up by video rather quickly. You probably already have an Ipod you dropped anywhere from $200-$300 on in the last couple years, why would you drop another $500 on a phone/Ipod?handheld?

Not practical? What specifically isn't practical. A 2 megapixel camera w/ the easiest mobile photo management I've ever seen is certainly practical. What about the 'conversation' iChat layout for text messages. That's practical. The iPod has already proven to be, as there are hundreds of mp3 players and portable video players out there. The voicemail system where you can see your voicemails listed before you would be extremely useful. What about Google Maps on your phone, certainly that is practical? And from what I hear, the touch screen controls and keyboard work like a charm.

Would any future iPhone models be bound to this agreement?

I don't think the iPhone is built for the business world. Personal use seems to be the emphasis with iPod and camera features. I had to look up Lotus Notes, as obviously I have no experience in 'the business world.' It appears it is available for Mac OS X. I doubt this application would be made available for the iPhone because like I said, the emphasis seems to be on personal use.

Maybe you're right, but many companies don't release all the details of an upcoming and announced product, including when asked. They release information on their terms, and asking doesn't change a thing.

A PS3 isn't 11.6 mm thick, have a 3.5 widescreen, and fit in your pocket, but either way that is a ridiculous comparison. They are completely different products.

I'd pay $500 this, because of exactly what you said. It's a phone/iPod/handheld/camera. I use my cell phone and iPod a lot. The iPhone would incorporate everything I need to or want to use in a daily basis in one. I'd either end up giving my iPod to my sister, or using it for trips and as an external hard drive.

Apple is going in the right direction with the iPhone. It's innovative, and other cell phone producers will have trouble keeping up with the features the iPhone boasts. Something so great can't come without downsides though. The aspects I'm most worried about is the 2yr+ Cingular agreement you mentioned, and scratches to the screen. Also, I'm hoping the on screen keyboard lives up to all the praise I've read and is easy to use.

Priced at 499/599 respectively, well that's only if Cisco Systems doesn't win its lawsuit against apple. I'm sure Jobs and company would just raise the price a bit to make up for the legal costs and royalties.

I've been using an IPHONE for quite sometime and really like it!
