ATI shares a few details about the HD-DVD drive with GameDaily.biz.

"ATI Technologies, which provides the graphics processing unit for the Xbox 360 and the upcoming Wii from Nintendo, has announced that its H.264 decoder has been selected for use in the Xbox 360 HD DVD player. Unlike standalone players, the HD DVD add-on will also make use of the 360 hardware to optimize the picture."
