Gamertags and Usernames

It is pretty inconvenient having 2 names for each user. What do you all think about setting every member's username to their gamertag, and only taking a gamertag when they register. To do this, everyone on the site would need to have an online gamertag, and anyone without one would need to be deleted.

I think you should do it. I've been wanting to change my username for a while too.

I agree, however there should be a way for someone without a "Live" account to sign up.
Maybe set it up so that they can create a user id without a gamertag, but if they add a gamertag, their username will revert to it?

I'm not sure how this would work. We'd have to assign them a username, but if anyone registered with a gamertag as a taken username, we'd need to change the username to something else.
The only thing I can think of, is have a username padded on the sides so it's larger than 16 characters ( max for a gamertag ). That way no one will have a conflicting gamertag, and people will be able to identify them as a non-live member.
For example... if someone registered with the non live username zoboa, I'd turn it into ______zoboa______. That's 17 characters, unique, and when people see underscores on the side, they'd know it was a non-live member.
