A television station in Nashville is reporting that the former N.F.L quarterback Steve McNair and an unidentified woman were found dead in downtown Nashville on Saturday, according to the police. The shootings occurred in a condominium.
The station, WTVF, said McNair sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head:
According to Don Aaron with the Metro Nashville Police Department, no suspects have been taken into custody. Several people were being taken to police headquarters for questioning.
McNair was one of his era’s best quarterbacks and one of its toughest players, playing through countless injuries. He led the Titans to the Super Bowl in 2000 and shared the league M.V.P. award in 2003. He announced his retirement in 2008 after a 13-year career, the final two with the Baltimore Ravens. He was 36.
We’ll have more details as they come in.

The Titans’ owner, Bud Adams, said in a statement:
“We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair’s passing today. He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they deal with his untimely passing.”
Update | 6:22 p.m. Aaron, the police spokesman, said: “At this point, we don’t know the circumstances of these shooting deaths. The investigation is going to be conducted by the police department’s centralized homicide unit. Those detectives have assembled here at the scene. The condominium still has to be processed. There is a lot of work yet to be done. It’s going to take many hours to process the scene. I don’t have any answers for you now as to what’s happened, who’s responsible, what the circumstances are.”
Update | 8:56 p.m. The woman was not McNair’s wife, Mechelle.

The Tennessean is reporting:
Police have confirmed that Steve McNair suffered several gunshots, and the woman with him died of one gunshot to the head.
Police have confirmed the female victim is Sahel Kazemi, 20.
A car registered to Steve McNair and 20-year-old Kazemi was stopped two days ago on Broadway. The driver and co-owner, Sahel Kazemi, was charged with driving under the influence and refusing to take a breath test.
Update | 11:20 p.m.
The Tennessean is reporting that it was an apparent murder-suicide. Because of the circumstances of the bullet wounds, the focus will turn to Kazemi as the possible shooter.
Metro police spokesman Don Aaron said they were leaning toward certain scenarios based on the evidence, but they hadn’t ruled anything out. Still, they were not actively looking for suspects Saturday night.

Salmani now believes McNair was using Kazemi because she was young and pretty. Salmani said her greatest dream was to be famous and I think she is now. She is everywhere.
An autopsy on both McNair and Kazemi is scheduled for Sunday.
