Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage DLC Now Available

Just a heads up vault-dwellers, the Operation: Anchorage downloadable content pack for Fallout 3 is now available. Along with the new content, items, and quests comes 100 points of new achievements for you all to grab up. The content will run you the standard 800 Microsoft Points, and I for one cannot wait to get out of work now!

Enter the simulation pod and embark on one of the greatest military campaigns of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. Experience harrowing winter combat using Fallout 3’s patented V.A.T.S. targeting system, and employ powerful new equipment like the Gauss Rifle, Chinese Stealth Armor, Winterized T-51b Power Armor, and more. Enlist today, soldier!

If you are like me and stuck at work today, you can add it to your downloadable queue here. MajorNelson has said to watch your Pip-Boy for the "Outcast Distress Signal" on your radio which will lead to the new content. Also, if there are any PC gamers, the Operation: Anchorage content is also available to you through the Windows Live Client, accessed when the game is started.

If anyone is on the fence about getting this DLC I can provide a few details.

First, the content features a fairly linear questline that takes place outside of the wasteland in a Virtual Reality Simulation. Bethesda has really outdone itself as the graphics for Alaska were quite gorgeous and vastly different from the normal Washington D.C. color set that you might be used to. There are no missable achievements, if you go through the questline you will 100/100 complete it, as well as have access to some very nice rewards after you exit the VR Sim. The mission caters to those characters specialized in all weapon types (melee, rifle, sniper, shotgun) and even features a few new weapons (trench knife ftw!). The content takes roughly 4-6 hours to complete depending on the difficulty level.

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the mission pack and can't wait for next months DLC to hit, if you liked Fallout 3's previous offerings then this should be a no-brainer.

i really can't wait.
after exiting the simulation, i imagine you can still wander the wastes with your new gear right?

Yes you sure can. I don't want to spoil anything but I received 2 different sets of armor after completion

Bringing in about 1 hour of more gameplay. Bethesda Studios is known for these new patches....(look at Elder Scrolls: Oblivion).

The level cap for operation anchorage remains the same, still at 20. The March planned DLC pack Broken Steel will raise that level cap to 30 however.

On the flipside there is one acquirable perk from Operation Anchorage (Even if you are already maxed at level 20.)

The 'Covert Ops' perk increases your level in each skill by 1 point and can be earned by finding all 10 hidden intel items that are in the DLC.

I liked it but i don't think it wasn't worth 800 points IMO but the armor is sweet

“At one point we seriously looked into the idea of building a Pip-Boy 3000 that would actually work and interface with the game on some level,” wrote product manager Pete Hines on the game’s official site. “That turned out to be a huge problem technically–getting it to work on three different platforms, and 10,000 issues here and there. So we bagged that and just went back to the original idea of “something that looks just like the one in the game, and it sits on my desk.’”
