Well the nice thing about it is, if you do get pulled over for driving drunk, you can just kill the cop, take his gun, then steal his squad car and run some vigilante missions before kidnapping and murdering a stripper.
P.S. Oh yeah, I guess you can do this in GTA4 too

Hee this topic is win.
I read part of a news article where Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) were sort of up in arms over the ability to drive drunk in the game.
Personally, I think it's good that the game actually has "drunk driving", versus their being no ill effects or just a slight haze filter over the screen. To me, it's a lot like "gore" in games.
I can't say precisely since I am not yet a parent, but I would think that I would prefer that if a person is playing a game where their character hits another character, or hacks some pieces off him, there should be blood. Not only does it add to the game in my opinion, but it attaches some actual consequence to the action. I wouldn't want my child thinking he can wallop someone at school with a machete and hear a great BONK! sound and see a yellow flash. I would prefer he knows weapons hurt people.
Likewise, for drunk driving, I don't see why there is a problem with the developers coding it so that alcohol actually impairs your ability to operate a vehicle in the game. Again, I think this not only adds to the game but it attaches a somewhat realistic consequence to your actions. If kids/game players really are being educated in "real life" by the freakin' video games they play, as so many seem to think, then how could it have a negative effect in teaching that your actions and decisions affect both you and those around you and you have to be responsible for them?
I know the crowd that preaches stuff like this is the same type that would prefer there be no violence, crime, intoxicants or anything else even in existence, but what they don't realize is that the only feasible alternative to adding in things like gore, profanity and "drunk driving" to games that are increasingly 'realistic' and full of stuff to do is if all consequence was removed and you could just gleefully pound on people like Looney Tunes or toss back a fifth of vodka and then go cruising like a race car driver with no ill effects. To me, that would be much more harmful to their attention-starved little minds.

Well, I took Roman out to the local bar, and I found I couldn't do a damn thing anyway!!! Hailing a cab was hard, walking was hard, I kept falling down....geez....I sobered up enough to limp back to the taxi garage. It was quite the experience though.

Quote by PSORaine:
You're gonna make a hell of a father, Rev, lol.
Actually, while everything you say is true, I'd like to point out that the legal age to buy the game is 17, and the legal age to drink is 21. If you buy your 12 year old an M game, YOU are responsible for what your child sees, not the people who made the game (for ADULTS!).
Also, if your 17 year old is going out drinking, you have more problems than whether he's driving himself home because NIKO does it. And if your 21 year old has no other source material than GTA4 to decide if drinking and driving is a good idea, then AS A PARENT, you need to get a knife, look in the mirror, and carve a scarlet F (for 'failure') into your freaking FOREHEAD. Because it is the game industry's job to entertain. Movies as well. It's a PARENT'S job to educate. Teachers teach math, reading, history, etc... PARENTS teach the rest!
I can't tell you how sick I am of how much more frequently bad behavior is being blamed on everyone but the people who decided to create the life in the first place. Why the fuck do people have kids if they want everyone else to be responsible for showing them what's right and wrong to do in life? They need to find out a way to remove reproductive organs at birth, and give them back after they pass a comprehensive parenting test- the title of which could be something like "BABIES: They grow up and you're still supposed to take care of them!" or "If you can't make a lifetime commitment, go buy a fish instead!" And anyone who says "Well, our marriage is kind of shaky, we're hoping a baby will bring us back together, and help us focus on being a family" should be tied to a chair and forced to watch said reproductive organs being thrown down a garbage disposal (a little "Hard Candy" I guess, lol)
I know there are a couple- lot- of minors that are frequents here... some of them have played GTA4... most probably plan to BEFORE they're old enough to buy it, lol. But quick show of hands- how many of them really plan to go out, get a hooker, then kill the hooker to get their money back? How many think that crime really does pay? I'll tell you- none of the ones whose parents are actually doing the work f raising them!

I agree with both of you. I am sick and tired of hearing negative remarks about games and children when the rating clearly states who is legally able to buy the game. Some parents make bad desicions when it comes to this. As someone who is taking Market Research & Planning and Contemporary Marketing though, I also know that the targeted consumer is between the ages of 12-22 (tweens) and 23-40 (gen X/Y). The placement of the magazine ads and television spots clearly puts the product in front of these groups. The distributors will hide behind the game rating but we all know that a 12-17 year old can easily get their hands on alcohol and this game is no different.
Still, the parent(s) can easily determine what their children are playing and rectify the situation. Proper explanation and education about certain life subjects is up to the parent(s). Don't let television or the internet teach your children. Talk to your kids. They're not stupid, just misguided.
Again, I would like to say that I agree fully with you ReverendMeta and PSORaine. You both have valid points and the world would be a better place if people just used some moral common sense.

I agree with everything too, except the part about me making a good father.
Though I'd be willing to try if Raine is
If it doesn't work out, we can get one of those really really late abortions.
Like at-their-3rd-birthday-party late.
