Starz Media is giving up the "Ghost" to Microsoft's Xbox and Amazon's Unbox.
The classic manga franchise "Ghost in the Shell" is one of a slew of Starz-produced programs going to the pair of digital platforms as part of Starz's strategy to multiply its online distribution partners. Starz already has signed BitTorrent, Netflix and Guba, among others.
"These deals represent our company's commitment to expansion in the growing digital media world," said Marc DeBevoise, senior VP of business development and strategy at Starz.
Unbox is licensing a bigger package than Xbox, which is sticking to manga suited for its young-male demographic, including "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex." Unbox also will get horror films including "The Evil Dead" and TV series like "Tripping the Rift."
