Scott Pilgrim v World's Knives Chau DLC
If you followed the film or comics, you know Knives as the blade-crazy, elite-yet-spastic girl that has a crush on Scott even though he has googly eyes for Ramona. I feel like he is a complete prick and Knives got shafted twice but she still came around to help when needed and that's pretty cool. Also, the streak in her hair changes color.
Going in, I just assumed this was going to be another re-skin for one of models already present in the game with maybe a few moves added, a la NegaScott, but I was wrong. Knives is a character all her own--she is quick & agile, has a longer, floatier jump and multiple recovery means both during ground- and air-based combat. She also has a killer set of tech moves: one is a quick, short range hurricane kick (tatsu maki!!) and the other lets her throw 3 flaming knife projectiles from the air. Her chain-able headstomp also makes for fun melee.
Playing through the game as just her is a fun and different experience. Combined with some minor tweaks to gameplay refinement via patching, the pacing is overall better now than before. The game is a bit shorter for it, but no less fun or intense if you ratchet up the difficulty.
Besides the character, this DLC pack also adds 2 new extra gameplay modes, each of which has the same local-only restriction if you want to do multiplayer. One is a battle royale which has you and 1-3 friends fighting to be the last standing. The other mode has you playing dodgeball, which is very hectic with this game's thrown item mechanics.
Bottom line: $2 for a new character and a couple extra gameplay modes is fine if you are a fan of the game. It's mandatory for completionists so it's a good thing they kept it in-line with the spirit of the whole Scott Pilgrim thing.
Achievements: Whether you download it or not, the Knives Chau DLC pack adds 50G and 3 Achievements to Scott Pilgrim: the Game. You have to catch 25 thrown objects, perform 10 consecutive headstomps, and complete the game in 1 play through under 90 minutes. None of these are difficult and you can grab them all at the same time--considering Knives' agility, you can complete all levels in under 90 minutes without really pushing for it. You do have to play ALL of them though, so that means no subspace highway shortcuts.
